Where is the engine timing mark location on an ED-40 tractor and
what degree should the engine be timed?

I don't know the answer to your question, but the 23C diesel in the ED40 is the same engine used in the Ferguson TO-35.  There is a lot more information available about the TO-35 than the ED40.
