Just curious what twist they offer in 223?
A friend had one with a 243. It was a sweet deer rifle. |

Almost any rifle cartridge in a hand held is gonna hurt, if add a stock and hold as rifle not so bad. I traded my .44mags for more controllable and second round faster recovery rate LIGHTER hand weapons. Only Contender I owned was in a rifle cartridge and bad juju to shoot, got tired of the beating.

Shot my brothers with both 44 mag and 30-30the 30-30 was in my opinion worse to shoot. Neither was much fun. It did shoot real nice with the 410 barrel.

I apologize for my earlier post. My buddies was an encore not a contender. It was a very nice shooting rifle.

Mike, just curious.... what do you do with a 30- 30 hand gun ? I can see collectors wanting something, but i sure could not hold onto it and do anything useful ? Of course, i am OLD !

Was thinking the same thing Steve. My go to carry gun is a 380. Short barrel 12 gauge for behind the door at home.

so what i have is a 445 12" barrel so it will shoot 445 , 44mag , 44super stand all the bullits next to a 30-30 and they tower over the 30-30 except for the super 44 , and i allready shoot a 30-30 alot so that is bullits that i always have . my next choice is 223 14" barrel also. by the way 44super is like shooting a 22 . i have been told that 30-30 is less recoil than 44mag but i would like to hear from some one that has really done it.

Many decades back, I had a TC Contender in dirty-thurty... was pretty accurate as I loaded all the rounds for it. But, it kicked like a freaking mule, good and hard. Much harder than a Colt 44 mag I had. Got rid of both, no way my arty-right-us would be able to handle them today. My 9mm is a handful for me now.
