Ten Things That Will Disappear In Our Lifetime:

1. The Post Office

Get ready to imagine a world without the post office. They are so deeply in financial trouble that

there is probably no way to sustain it long term. Email, Fed Ex, and UPS have just about wiped

out the minimum revenue needed to keep the post office alive. Most of your mail every day is

junk mail and bills.

2. The Cheque

Britain is already laying the groundwork to do away with cheques by 2022.  It costs the financial

system billions of dollars a year to process cheques.  Plastic cards and online transactions will

lead to the eventual demise of the cheque.  This plays right into the death of the post office.  If

you never paid your bills by mail and never received them by mail, the post office would

absolutely go out of business.

3. The Newspaper

The younger generation simply doesn't read the newspaper.  They certainly don't subscribe to a

daily delivered print edition.  That may go the way of the milkman and the laundry man.  As for

reading the paper online, get ready to pay for it.  The rise in mobile Internet devices and e-readers

has caused all the newspaper and magazine publishers to form an alliance.  They have met with

Apple, Amazon, and the major cell  phone companies to develop a model for paid subscription

services.

4. The Book

You say you will never give up the physical book that you hold in your hand and turn the literal

pages  I said the same thing about downloading music from iTunes.  I wanted my hard copy CD.

But I quickly changed my mind when I discovered that I could get albums for half the price without

ever leaving home to get the latest music.  The same thing will happen with books.  You can browse

a bookstore online and even read a preview chapter before you buy.  And the price is less than half

that of a real book.  And think of the convenience!  Once you start flicking your fingers on the screen

instead of the book, you find that you are lost in the story, can't wait to see what happens next, and

you forget that you're holding a gadget instead of a book.

5. The Land Line Telephone

Unless you have a large family and make a lot of local calls, you don't need it anymore.  Most people

keep it simply because they've always had it.  But you are paying double charges for that extra

service.  All the cell phone companies will let you call customers using the same cell provider for no

charge against your minutes.

6. Music

This is one of the saddest parts of the change story.  The music industry is dying a slow death.  Not

just because of illegal downloading.  It's the lack of innovative new music being given a chance to get

to the people who would like to hear it.  Greed and corruption is the problem.  The record labels and

the radio conglomerates are simply self-destructing  Over 40% of the music purchased today is

"catalogue items," meaning traditional music that the public is familiar with  Older established artists.

This is also true on the live concert circuit.  To explore this fascinating and disturbing topic further,

check out the book, "Appetite for Self-Destruction" by Steve Knopper, and the video documentary,

"Before the Music Dies."

7. Television Revenues

To the networks are down dramatically  Not just because of the economy.  People are watching TV

and movies streamed from their computers.  And they're playing games and doing lots of other things

that take up the time that used to be spent watching TV.  Prime time shows have degenerated down

to lower than the lowest common denominator.  Cable rates are skyrocketing and commercials run

about every 4 minutes and 30 seconds.  I say good riddance to most of it.  It's time for the cable

companies to be put out of our misery.  Let the people choose what they want to watch  online and

through Netflix.

8. The "Things" That You Own

Many of the very possessions that we used to own are still in our lives, but we may not actually own

them in the future.  They may simply reside in "the cloud."  Today your computer has a hard drive and

you store your pictures, music, movies, and documents.  Your software is on a CD or DVD, and you

can always re-install it if need be.  But all of that is changing.  Apple, Microsoft, and Google are all

finishing up their latest "cloud services."  That means that when you turn on a computer, the Internet

will be built into the operating system.  So, Windows, Google, and the Mac OS will be tied straight into

the Internet.  If you click an icon, it will open something in the Internet cloud.  If you save something, it

will be saved to the cloud.  And you may pay a monthly subscription fee to the cloud provider.  In this

virtual world, you can access your music or your books, or your whatever from any laptop or handheld

device.  That's the good news.  But, will you actually own any of this "stuff" or will it all be able to

disappear at any moment in a big "Poof?"  Will most of the things in our lives be disposable and

whimsical?  It makes you want to run to the closet and pull out that  photo album, grab a book from the

shelf, or open up a CD case and pull out the insert.

9. Joined Handwriting (Cursive Writing)

Already gone in some schools who no longer teach "joined handwriting" because nearly everything is

done now on computers or keyboards of some type (pun not intended)

10. Privacy

If there ever was a concept that we can look back on nostalgically, it would be privacy.  That's gone.  It's

been gone for a long time anyway..  There are cameras on the street, in most of the buildings, and even

built into your computer and cell phone.  But you can be sure that 24/7, "They" know who you are and

where you are, right down to the GPS coordinates, and the Google Street View.  If you buy something,

your habit is put into a zillion profiles, and your ads will change to reflect those habits..  "They" will try to

get you to buy something else.  Again and again and again.

All we will have left that which can't be changed.......are our "Memories".

Logic is dead.

Excellence is punished.

Mediocrity is rewarded.

And dependency is to be revered.

Life lesson: If you’re being chased by a lion, you’re on a horse, to the left of you is a giraffe and on the right is a unicorn, what do you do? You stop drinking and get off the carousel.

Here in the States, the Post Office is mandated in The Constitution.
I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

Virtually the only thing I watch on television is the NFL broadcast games.  That is going away now because most games are pay per view type stuff.  And it isn't from one source.  Some are going to be Amazon, some are ESPN, some are NFL network.  I have no desire to pay multiple sources .

I think people make the mistake of assuming change is the same as progress. While there have been many improvements to the quality of life, I think many are more trade offs than improvements. I like having a smart phone, but the trade off are scam calls, and people seem less connected actualy as many favor to text message than talk. The other day I got 6 scam calls, nobody called I actualy wanted to talk to, and I got to thinking the worst feature on this phone is the phone.

Or interactive Games as the younger Plant Operators would do when they could find a place to hide from bosses.  They did not realize all the Iphone transmissions went thru a Company Repeater so were being tracked on usage time.  Several got demotions to Plant Helper 2/3 wages until could prove would not sit on phone all day, many quit shortly thereafter to go elsewhere to try again.

Everything is changing.
This resort town used to be full of restaurants.
In the last couple years most have scaled back on hrs only to go broke and close.
Near here is a big tire warehouse.
I bought backhoe tires there a few weeks back. I took the wheels in and it took days to get the new ones installed.
Went there yesterday to get a couple lawn mower tires changed. Took half a day and only one customer in front of me.
Not just this place either. No one can get help.
Mechanic shops can’t get anyone. Our work can’t get help.
We haven’t had a raise in six years and times have left us behind.
People won’t work for the going pay.
I just waited 18 weeks for a set of windows for a couple small rental cabins.
I foresee these modern workers learning grandpa and grandma’s ways in the future.
Won’t be easy but necessary.

YES,,,things are changing right in front of our eyes, for sure, and while I do not want to start a political argument,,,IF the people in this country do not vote in 2022  and 2024 to change what is happening,,,it will get worse!!
I have been trying to hire local laborers to do some cleaning up, painting and other small jobs  for the longest time and even called the local "Unemployment Office" and asked to put my name on the "daily Board" and the lady laughed at me!! She said thay do not do that anymore plus I have to have a "Contractor's License" , be bonded and have a federal permit to employ people,,,I told her "I just need some ditches dug,,don't need a professor or engineer,,,,,I asked her what do we do to get laborers for what I need! She had nuttin to say!! My friend that helped with re-shingle the house charged me $25/hr and NO way he could interest anyone else to come work on the roof for less than that,,,,I'm talking bout laborers with NO experience!!! Fact is, one of told him that he was getting more than that just staying home,,,and he ain't EVEN LEGAL,!!  How do they get on the guvment payroll without being legal ?? Tough times ahead if we don't do what we have to do,,,,,,,

This is the problem with the country today.. TOO MUCH FREE CHEESE... People need to get HUNGRY and know the only way out is to GO TO WORK.... You cant ( or should not) rely on the GOVT to take care of you cradle to grave.. Turn OFF the FREE CHEESE.

Perhaps, we should all tell the government that we "Identify as Imagrant Farmers".  Free fuel, free seed, free fertilizer (gov't BS a plenty), free parts, no taxes to pay.

I don't think all these things will disappear completely. A neighbor just got a new Iphone14 with 5G and it doesn't work at his house after multiple trips back to the store  he finally got someone who looked up his location and said AT&T doesn't have towers in his area and he wouldn't get good service although we are only 5 miles from a large city. Unfortunately when he had his last land line phone he was getting poor service from them.  Many rural areas struggle with poor internet making all things others receive over the internet unavailable to some. Even look at farmers who thought they could use GPS for planting and ordered planters without markers end up buying repeaters to have a reliable GPS signal.

The post office will not be going anywhere. 1. There are bound by law to service every person. Ups & fedex don't deliver bills so the usps can't disappear ( no one to take over) 3. And the biggest thing is about 10yrs ago congress may the usps pay for Future retirement. Like 80 yrs in the future there not even born yet....so that is why the usps shows a negative yearly return..

And the biggest thing to understand is the the usps make money. The Only part of our government that does, so there not going to let that go. The usps is there cash cow...

3 and 5 I agree, will go, but NOT 9.  Schools are being TOLD to bring it back.  People (parents) all across this great nation of ours, are screaming at school boards and firing some of them on the spot!  People are going into the school board meetings and telling the board that their services are no longer needed!!  GET OUT.  People are finding out all about the underhanded ways that they are teaching our kids that they don't have to be male or female, that LGBT (or what ever it is) is OK.  People are finally fighting back!
I have ALWAYS said that it should be illegal for ANY teacher, spouse or past teacher to be on the school board.  That is putting the proverbial fox in charge of the hen house.
Finally people are seeing this....

The govt broke up Ma Bell years ago, but won't do that with the teachers unions....they vote with the govt...
