Went to an estate auction by goodrich's in newfield today. Maybe i am behind on scrap prices or people are just stir crazy but wow. First item allis bulldozer gm diesel conpletely shot, tracks frozen and no assistance to get it out of the mud, 1500. Lot of 4 roto-balers rusted beyond repair, 900, d17 with a tree growing through it, 700. Only possible deal was a bale loader for a wd brought a couple hundred but it was rusted and missing most of the mounting brackets.
Most depressing thing is the farm, a s##thole, with a burner of a house, bought over ten grand an acre to a nyc lawyer. There goes the property taxes |

Scrappers are nuts. Son and a friend got out bid on a pos New Holland spreader(we needed the wheels and tires friend wanted the beaters). Scrapper went like $200.00 on it. There was thst much work in getting it out of there. Sides, bulkhead, floor xmembers all rusted away.

Larger scrap yards around here are sitting on material waiting for prices to rise, not seen so low in months.
As far as land prices, idiots from both coasts are arriving not understanding why land prices were ‘so low’ and end up in bidding wars to buy scrub or swampy ground. One guy was admiring his place near BILs place outside Salem MO, BIL asked if was having a issue, said no just over looking his retirement investment, gonna log it when ready for more income in a few years. Do not know who tells these people that recently clearcut ground will produce in leas than 40 years for decent hardwood specie. Charcoal kilns are closing down(EPA) and white oak is extremely slow growth in rocky ground. Others are trying to start sheep farms as poor grass pasture areas that cannot support large scale beef are utilized but that has begun to dilute pricing on lamb sales. Was getting parts for our Deere mower to service it, overheard conversation of customer trying to find equipment to pickup rock in fields and asking where could sell that rock as knew would be in Demand for field stone as was back in Connecticut. He had paid $5500/a for ground that advertised at $2200 three years ago and would not sell as was trash ground. A number of $million homes have popped up on real estate flyers, recent builds by those types that cannot get services they demand and tired already of drives to get any materials non typical for a rural community as high end furnishings. They had these built on trash ground they also got stupid as to pricing bid wars on where is reverting back to trash prices. |

So curiosity got the best of me and i stopped to talk to the guys loading the remainder of the scrap today. Guy says scrap is cheap right now and it is only a couple of miles to the yard. Says it is better to keep his guys busy and grab the heavy scrap and let it appreciate in his yard.

Around my way scrap is doing fairly well. A couple weeks ago I hauled off a bunch of leftovers from restoring my 89 Pick/Up and got about $150 for less than a half ton of rusted out sheetmetel and my scrap barrel. I'm working on a load of cast iron now and it's about twice that rate.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |

Have you lived under a rock the last 18 plus months? Prices on everything seem out of hand. |
