Is there any difference in accuracy between an temp gauge with an electric sending unit and one with a cable from a sensor bulb that goes in the block?

I think there is, but with qualifications. If the bulb sensor with the tube is running right beside say the exhaust manifold, like on a d-10/12, it will read hotter than it should. I know AC moved the sensor location and tube routing, because of this very thing. THat being said, I prefer the bulb and tube to the electric unit...HTH

i think the Accuracy has more to do with the QUALITY of manufacture... Depends on who make the gauge and set the calibration. ... of course, the BULB may be a little slower on reaction time... but not drastic.

On my 7000, 7020, 7030 and 7040 the bulbs seem to run 10 to 15* cooler indicated than the electric and definitely lag on changes?.

Any of the electric versions that have components 30 or 40 years old (to me) are always SUSPECT in accuracy. In that case, I would be more likely to trust a new mechanical bulb type assuming the point of heat measurement is of equal temperature. I also assume the new mechanical gauge assembly is of good enough quality to be trusted.

I doubt ANY of them are 'accurate' ,kinda depends on what 'accurate' means... Bulb type or electric , maybe good to +-5*F ? though you'd have to run a lot of bench tests to confirm. You can't mix brands of electric sensors and gauges, must be a 'set'. One problem with them is no voltage regulator powering them so reading will change as the battery voltage does,not much, but it does.

I put new AGCO senders in my 220 and 8070 2yrs ago and brought the temps up to where the belong on gauge....made me feel better LOL. Could check with infrared gun but good enough for now.
