GOHMERT: Strzok’s Biggest Lie was He ‘Always Told the Truth’

‘I’ve talked to FBI agents around the country. You’ve embarrassed them…’

(Kaylee McGhee, Liberty Headlines) Rep. Louis Gohmert, R-Texas, told Fox Business this morning there “was no bigger lie told” than when FBI agent Peter Strzok said he “always told the truth” during a congressional hearing.

Strzok was called to testify before Congress on Thursday regarding his actions during the Hillary Clinton email and Russia investigations.

The nearly 10-hour hearing addressed Strzok’s anti-Trump texts sent during the 2016 presidential election, which have led many Republicans to believe Strzok’s bias affected his conduct.

“The moment special counsel Bob Mueller found out about Peter Strzok’s text and emails he kicked him off of the investigation,” said House Oversight Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy, R-S.C. “But that was a year and a half too late. The text and emails may have been discovered in May of 2017, but the bias existed and was manifest a year and a half before that. All the way back to late 2015 and early 2016.

“So it wasn’t the discovery of texts that got him fired, it was the bias manifest in those texts that made him unfit to objectively and dispassionately investigate.”

Gohmert said the FBI entrusting the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server, to someone bent on helping her get elected, is the story everyone should pay attention to.

“The big story is the 30,000 emails that went through the Hillary Clinton unauthorized, unsecured, private server that the intelligence community inspector general and his investigator, Frank Rucker, found,” Gohmert said in the interview with Fox Business.

Strzok defended his actions during the hearing, saying his dislike of then-candidate Donald Trump did not affect his actions.

“At no time in any of these texts did those personal beliefs ever enter into the realm of any action I took,” Strzok said. “The suggestion that I’m in some dark chamber somewhere in the FBI that would somehow cast aside all of these procedures, all of these safeguards, and that I’d somehow be able to do this is astounding to me — it simply couldn’t happen.”

Gohmert attacked Strzok’s testimony by asking why Congress should believe a man who regularly lied and covered things up — including an extramarital affair with FBI lawyer Lisa Page.

“I’ve talked to FBI agents around the country. You’ve embarrassed them; you’ve embarrassed yourself,” Gohmert said. “And I can’t help but wonder, when I see you looking there with a little smirk, how many times did you look so innocent into your wife’s eye and lie to her about Lisa Page?”

Yet Gohmert told Fox Business that despite the sensational nature of Strzok’s and Page’s relationship, the underlying behavior was what was most significant.

“Credibility is always material and always relevant even in a court of law where we are careful what we allow jurors to hear,” he said. “The relevance not the infidelity. The relevance is the material lying; and, there was no bigger lie told in that whole hearing than Peter Strzok saying I have always told the truth. Yeah – garbage.”
