Norm: Look in your parts manual for the part number and call Kaman Bearing to see if they supply a cross.  Should be one close in your area.  If not, PM and might be able to help.

I talked to five different people who had a generic with the correct number but none of them could tell me the dimensions by phone nor were there any listed in the listings, no photos, nothing. two of them said they would put in a requisition to get the information. the last one I called was in new York. When I asked him he said he would call the supplier and get back to me but he thought it as the correct seal. He called back in 10 minutes and gave me the mesurements. SEAL is on the way. so I will know by Tuesday. cant believe allis charges so much for a seal $135. cant believe people wanted so much for the sprocket axle. Anywhere from 650 to 1500. I probably located 15/20 axles in 7/8 phone calls so there not that rare as couple guys said they were extremely rare to find. one guy wanted 650 and hadn't taken them out yet. I did find a new aftermarket for 414. I bought a nice from Zimermans for a lot les. allis wanted 1500. guess allis chalmers ceo needs a raise. sorry to rant . thanks norm

Hey Norm, sounds like you are really having a tough time with everything. I got all my rebuild parts from Illini Construction Parts when I went thru my HD 4 finals. that was in 2010. they were pretty reasonable on the seals, bearings, and gaskets that I needed. couple #'s,800-352-1723 or 630-443-9500. seal would range 10 to 20 dollars and bearing and cone set 20 to 35 bucks. Hope this helps. I also have dealt with General Gear and Machine in Boise Idaho. www.tractorparts.com Phone 800-531-8911. Nice folks to deal with... Randal

Hello Randall. Hope all is well down there. Whats most aggravating is the cost these people try to charge. I found a seal at allis dealer close to me. $135 bucks which is outrageous. They also had the axle. $1500 bucks. problem is that allis puts those mumbers out there and that's what a lot of people go by. allis may be a good dealer for newer stuff but apparently they could care less about the older stuff. People complain about the aftermarket stuff and this is what causes it. I found a new aftermarket for $414. I remember 4 years ago I bought an upper roller from zimmermans. I paid 100 bucks for it. nice roller. I asked him then about an axle and he said 250 which was higher than most. I have found there are several parts out there for these h4 dozers. There not as scarce as some people would lead you to believe. I do know this there isn't many dummies like me that likes these dozers and 10 years from now there wont be anyone looking for parts and all the parts these guys are trying to make a bunch of money on will be sold for scrap. a lot of these old dozers would be fixed up if these people would just price there parts reasonable. anyway I have ranted enough. Got my axle and a seal on the way. Bought a new bearing from napa. need a gasket for the pan , other than that I should have it all back together next week. You all have a nice day. Sun is shining and dry as heck here,

Raining. that's must be a new word. I went to dig a hole for my daughters dog that had died. got down about a foot an had to scrape a lot to get down 3 feet. It is really dry here. haven't decided if I need to put steering clutches in it or not. the adjustment is all the way in so I don't know if theres still full adjustment or none left. ill have to read the manual to see if I can figure it out.

If you decide to put steering clutches and brakes in it, make sure you have some patience and help. Probably will remember words you thought you had forgotten! Tracy

Norm, which way is the most of the threads on the brake bands ? How far out toward the transmission are the three clutch fingers ?

I haven't looked inside yet. Reading the book but still not sure. I do think it may have been worked on before. Some on has welded a square piece on the end of the adjusting rod that you can put a drive in it to hold when you loosen the jam nut. The adjusting screw is all the way in so its either has never been adjusted or it is out of adjustment. Book really doesn't say either way. I know the right side has some oil that has been in it. The fellow I bought it from said he had an oil leak on the hydraulic tank that he finally fixed. Not leaking now but you can see by the oil and dirt it had been leaking for a spell. Quite a mess that will require the water blaster for sure. Well Tracy patience is what I have to old to not have any. I had to replace the right outer case on my first one. I also replace the steering clutch and brake bands with Randall help on the other one I have. My biggest problem was that darn snap ring. Think it took me 2 days to finally get it out. Job took about 3 weeks to complete and was very expensive. Could not have done it with out my skid loader. Don't have any help so me and my skid loader did it. . This will most likely be my last h4 project. love to work on them but health wise its really starting to take a toll on me. I will say I surely have learned a lot working on these and reading the answer people put on here. thanks norm

Like I mentioned I just measured things and found seals and a speedy sleeve to fit the axle that had a worn groove in it . I found that Herc U Lift in Mpls was real familiar with HD4 and bought parts from them - in fact they had some used parts also (takeouts) for the finals . then that was 20 years back and mechanics and parts guys probably retired now who actually worked on those machines .
