Evening Allis friends,

I'm wanting to do as much of a full service on an Allis 200 diesel that I can while I'm up at the farm for a week come July (as a reminder, I live/work in TX but have a family farm in OK).  I'm so good at "hiding" the service manual that I had to order another one but in the meantime, I'm needing some direction from everyone as this will be my first time to service this machine:

Oil
Shell Rotella 15-40 oil?
Dual oil filters but what brand and #...Napa?...Baldwin?

Antifreeze
Based on everything I've read on this forum, I'm really confused on this one.  I don't believe I have a coolant filter but it seems all I need is the right coolant with the additive anyway and I should be good?
What brand and name is best to simply "pour and forget" till the next change?...50/50 mix?
Forgive me, but, how do I flush the system and once I do, how many total gals are req'd?

Transmission/Hydraulics
Total dependence on everyone here on this.  Once I have the service manual, I'll know where the plugs and such are but what are the modern day fluids that should be used?  I'll admit that I don't have a thorough understanding of what/how these systems work but I'm learning! Smile

Fuel
Any advice for the fuel system that doesn't get that much use (tractor is started and ran every few months)?

Tough to beat Baldwin filters but I usually use AGCO.

Treat your fuel with something like Bio Kleen? Especially if using bio diesel. We never used to treat non bio diesel but Minnesota, the communist state that it is Big smile, will not allow you to buy non bio diesel and I've had 3 tractors act up because of bacteria growing in the fuel.

As far as the anti freeze goes, I'd drain the radiator (should be a pad cock at the bottom) and the block (may be a pad cock or plug on the side of the block for that). Once it's empty, close er up and re-fill. In my tractors, I always use 50/50 anti freeze so I don't have to mess with water, and that way, also, I know that it is blended with good water. I buy my anti freeze at NAPA, but make sure that I get the heavy duty stuff; not the automotive stuff. That's just me talking, though. Others may have different ideas. Darrel

Antifreeze never loses it's ability to keep it from freezing. What it does lose it the anti-corrosion abilities. There are several anti-freeze additives available that can be added without changing the antifreeze. If the antifreeze looks good, I, personally, would not change it. I would add an anti-corrosion (and possibly a water pump lubricant) additive.

For the transmission/hydraulics, look on the side of the container to find one that says it is compatible with Allis Chalmers 821 Power Fluid. There are several companies that make compatible fluid.

Filters - There are several good ones: NAPA, Baldwin, Wix, etc.

...and for the oil, I've used Rotella for years and always had good luck with it.

Ok, great suggestions so far! Clap

It sounds like either the Baldwin or Wix filter is good to go...anyone got a part #?

Hmmm, not sure how good or new the anti freeze is but I do like the option of simply adding the additive...I'm assuming Napa has either so I'll check it out.

Also, I'll see if Napa or Tractor Supply has the hydraulic fluid that is compatible.

Agree that a fuel additive is needed and I've heard good things about Bio Kleen on the Powerstroke forums...I'll give it a go!

Don't forget the final drives!! They each hold 2 gallons. I use 75w-90 in mine. Saw 1 years ago that had been run dry, pretty expensive repair.

a. Final Drives; 8 qts. , each. A/C  Gear Lube #715 !?!? try to find that in stock!!
The fill / check plugs are behind the 3 pt. cylinder anchor pins. Tricky to get them out & in. Just pull cotter pins and slide pins in flush to housing.

b. Engine oil; 15 qts. w/Filters. Type, CD Diesel, I prefer Shell 15W-40.

c. Power Director & Hydraulics, 28 qts. w/ filter. A/C power fluid 821 or equal.

d. Transmission; 38 qts. A/C power fluid 821 or equal.

e. Anti- freeze; Any name brand product should work. Fill to within 2" of radiator neck, any more will just get out the overflow when working it. I'm another that is willing to spend the extra for the 50/50 pre-mix lifetime, heavy duty for my equipment. Now that all of mine have been drained/ flushed/ refilled, I'll likely just top off as needed.

Don't use Tractor Supply hydraulic oil,, I've found it seems to be too thin, I always use Extreme Pure Flo, 565950,works great with A.C. tractors up to 85,, and that's our treasures!

Didn't even think of the final drives, GOOD CALL...some research indicates just a good 80-90 wt oil will work.

I've heard similar things about Tractor Supply so I'll avoid there...I'll track some of that Extreme Flo hydraulic oil down.
