This old man is slower that a one armed wall paper hanger. Or the way it seems to me. It is closed in but I am finding the hard part is mudding over the tape and feathering it out with my weak hands and arms. I'll get it but it will take more time than I expected. I can only make about three swipes over my head until my hand is to heavy to keep it from shaking. I can set on the stool or back in the wheelchair for a couple minutes and make three more passes. Actually on this size room it should only be a couple hours work for a drywaller. I have been told hire a drywaller and have it over with. Anyone that actually knows me, that will not happen. Even if I am still at it next year.

What I know about mudding... when I had a pro do the kitchen, he made his mud, said the tub of premade is way too wet. told me to drain off the water, then mix for 5 minutes, let stand for 10. it was noticably a 'thicker' creamy mud. went on smoother and stayed in place. also don't fuss with it(brings water to surface, gets runny, arrgh !), got a ridge ? ,leave it ! it'll scrape off next day.only sand after the final coat(#3). |

Dick, if anyone gives you a bad time for being slow just tell them it is good physical therapy which it is !! Plus you get the satisfaction of doing it yourself.

Steve (ill) Here is a link to the album with the progress pictures of the Shirley She Shed. The story! We are both kinda disabled for normal work. Dixie has not able to get into the mobile home office at the factory for several years. We turned our small home dining room into our factory office. The years of files have built into an unmanageable condition. About three months ago Dixie said I am sick of this mess and I am buying a yard shed that will be weather proof to store this mess so I can make this place look like a home again. We went to look at what we would have to choose from that would work. We went to a lot with many sheds of all sixes and shapes. She settled on one and I called about the price of one she thought would work and the sales person was not there at the time but would be right back. I drove around the lot and she saw this one twice the size of the one she wanted and wanted a price on it. She said, this is the one I want. When the sales lady called us back Dixie ask about the price and the lady said, we have had this one a long time and if you take it today so we can puta new one in its place I will make you a better deal. (SOLD) This is when she said I want half for my hobby room. That is where the project started. After it was delivered and she as able to set inside to dream of all she would like to have it look like it was then decided the ceiling would be to low. This is where the project became more complicated for an old duffer in a wheelchair. It became even more complicated when she said, is this going to be to much for you. And, and I said, no problem, I been doing this kinda stuff all my life. https://public.fotki.com/DickL/shirleys-she-shed/#media Edited by Dick L - 08 Sep 2018 at 8:51am |

It's OK , I'm 65 now, I can take a few pokes.... but, but I PAID for a REAL PRO for that ! Commercial drywallers and mudders... day 1 ALL drywall up,taped and mudded, day 2, 2nd coat, day 3 sand and primed ! These guys KNOW their trade unlike the 'pro' that has 1/3 of the garage roof done after 22 dayze......not that I'm counting... ![]() Jay |

Just a suggestion. I have always wet sanded. You need to start out experimenting with how wet you make the rag. It's gotta be wet enough to rewet the top layer of mud. As you work it, it will fill any minor voids you come across. I preferred a terry cloth rag. The best part is, NO DUST! I've been complimented many times on my work.

I'll try wet sanding and see how it goes when I get that far along. I told Dixie ceiling tile was still an option as well as texture paint.

I use a big sponge for wet sanding, like the ones for washing cars. Have never tried it, but, wonder if a sponge floor mop would work.

I bought a sanding sponge at Menards yesterday. It has a fiber for sanding on one side. I haven't been able to get out in the shed to work for two days. It might be a couple more days before I get a chance to try it out.

Your doing it right Dick. No one will do it better but the bad part is you and only you will see every spot you missed.
![]() I always like to use a damp sponge as a final wipe down as it gets rid of the fine sanding marks.
