I am restoring a Allis Number 3 Sickle Mower.  At this time I have been unable to find a manual.  I believe I have all the parts for the pitman arm but not sure about the assembly sequence for attaching to the sickle blade.  From the parts diagram, it appears the spring preloads via an intermediate piece the rectangular piece which squeezes the clamps that go over the ball. The spring appears to require a recessed hole in the pitman arm as well.   How should the pitman arm be put together?.

Thank you

Yes, you need a hole in the pitman stick to set the spring in. The best way I can explain how it goes together is that the straps go on the sides of the arm with the actuator inside and the square piece around and outside the straps. Depending on the design the actuator either turns or slides forward to spread the side arms so it can be mounted on the sickle bar ball.

Maybe the following link to my mower pictures will help.

Thank you.  From the parts listing it looks like the spring would go to the bolt hole, so I would need to make about a 1 inch drilled hole for it.  I assume the round end on the spring goes around the triangular metal piece internal post.  The brackets I have are somewhat bent, should they be straight and then pulled in by the rectangular bracket as the spring pushes it?

Mike,  Nice clean #3 mower.  There for a while we sure sold and serviced enough of them.
Good Luck!

Thank you for the photos.  The pitman arm end at the sickle blade was really helpful.  It caused me to change a couple of things.   Also enjoyed seeing a restored mower.   I am sure other photos will be helpful as  I proceed with this one.  I hope to find an operators manual in the future or at least a copy of one.  Thanks again.

Try an AGCO dealer for manuals.
