Howdy Everybody!

So, it's that-time-of-year again... when the northernish bunch of us experience four-letter words starting with S, falling from the sky... and it ain't because you're pullin' a manure spreader.

I'm getting ready to fit up my 7-1/2' Meyer snowblade to my D17, and have decided that the bracketry which previously anchored it to the front of my Jeep is, from a geometric standpoint, insufficient.

Before I start diggin into it, I'd like to see what the rest of you have done in the realm of mounting snowblades on the front of tractors.  Anybody got pictures of how you've rigged yours up?

Ahhhhhh.... snow the way I remember it.  Three more years and I'll be back - playing in it.  Meanwhile, non-stop depressing rain.

Those of you with the angle blades on a loader frame - don't you have a problem with the sideways thrust pushing the tractor around?

The first pass of a heavy 6" snow is about all my CA and blade will handle. Keep the speed up and the snow moves pretty good. But yes there is some side push. The chains are on the duals also so that helps to keep her straight. Not to bad for a 60 year old, 25 hp tractor. And since I have to move the snow anyway, I may as well try to make it fun.

Cool stuff!

What I'm really wondering... does anyone have a common snowblade oriented up front, with bracketry that goes under the tractor, and attaches at the rear...  and does anybody have any input on doing it that way?  Aside from sacrificing a little ground clearance (and keep in mind that I have a rear scraper on the 3-point) is there any reason NOT to do it that way??

I have one that fits on a C narrow or single front. It mounts to the rear finals and a pulley and cable system lifts via the rear lift arms.  It is for sale.  I also have a C with a front blade attached to the wide front and lifted with hydraulics via an inverted bottle jack plumbed into the hydraulic system. Also have a factory allis belly blade for a C.

My first blade looked a lot like Greg's but wasn't as tall and was on a JD  A. Can't see mine very well here. It's an old water heater tank I cut up and doubled along the bottom 6 inches.  I've had 4 foot drifts most the way out the drive to the road and never had a problem pushing it out of the way. It would be nice to angle it for pushing things back out of the way.

This old girl been pushing this through upstate NY winters longer than I've been on this earth. Only snow removal we had on the farm unless you count Oliver 770 fel which always seemed to freeze up whenever you really could have used a fel for piling snow.

I don't have any pictures handy but my set up on the WD is alot like rfdeere's set up. I like to push off the rear of the tractor rather than the front like al's set up. When you hit an obstruction or heavy snow that whole shock load is going to be on the torque tube with the frame on the front. With the frame on the rear end or in my case the push arms go staight back to the front hole on the draw bar. I had a piece of 2x4x1/4 tube stock that I welded some ears on at the dimension of the meyers plow that was donated. The mount is 6" behind the front axle and a foot off the ground it is supported off the frame of the tractor with one 5/8 bolt on each side. That way the shock is transfered to the push arms. The lift on mine is a frame on the front that was on my uncle's WD that he used back in the 50's. The hydralics from the tractor lift the plow with no problem. If your d-17 has remotes you'll be able to angle and lift with ease.

I can't find any pictures. the 10 years I lived in upper michigan I pushed all my snow with a C. Straight arms from the plow drop bhrackets on the final drives to a straight blade just foward of the NF tires.Lifted from the rockshaft with a cable to pulled on the drawbar. than forward to two pulleys on the cultivator front support bar. We got 240 inches of snow and I moved it all with a C. Biggest thing about moving lots of snow with a small tractor, move it all the way back as far as posable evry snow.  once its packed in you won't be able to move it again.

Good advice. I put a cheap 3 point blade on Dad's 8N bout 30 years ago. I cleared a lot of snow with it for a few years when I kept it at my place. When Dad decided to keep it at his place he got disgusted fiddling around with it and said it wasn't worth messing with. He would try to clear a whole drift in one swipe, instead of pecking at it till it was opened up.

Rfdeere:
When she was the main tractor on our NY farm she needed that weight to keep her nose down whether playing with the 3-16s or 4-14s depending on which field she was in.
