My buddy has a 5020 4 wheel drive with loader. Front wheel drive is broke. He has located parts to fix it. What he is wondering is how much MORE will the tractor be worth with working front wheel drive.

He's got to find out what someone will give him as is. Then what can he get for it after it is fixed . How much $$$$ to fix. What's it worth to him to fix it and keep it to use .
100 ways to look at it.

2 wheel drives are about $3500. ... I would think if a 4 wheel drive is "broke" , people might frown on that and think the tractor was worked hard.... I think it would be better to FIX the tractor.. If he is going to keep it, that would be usefull with the loader.. IF he sells it, it should bring a much better price......... what do the parts cost ?

Thanks for the responses so far. It appears that the tractor may have been in some sort of an accident that caused the problem. Sounds like the parts would be about $1400.00. He plans on keeping it. Still looking for more opinions and/or actual prices of machines in either condition.

He is fortunate to find parts.... seriously. We have had many say "we can get you parts" and never come through.

I would fix it. What can he replace it with for less money? We had a 2wd one and put about 20k hours on it. All we ever did to it was the fuel pump and a clutch. It was a tough little tractor but we traded it off when we needed more hp.

If I was going to keep it then I would fix it. Put it back to the way it was designed if he has access to parts and if it doesn’t become cost prohibitive. I put more in my D17 than I probably should have, but I know I can get my money back should I ever sell it. Unfortunately the import tractors are usually not that lucky.

Like was said- if hes gonna keep it and happy with spending the money to get it right , go for it - he,ll never get the money back when /if he sells it; they are showing their age and parts are kinda hard to come by

I went from a industrial loader to a farm tractor. I sure miss the heftiness of the industrial loader as compared to a farm loader. But I sure do like the front wheel drive every time back up hill with anything in the bucket. If you never get stuck and have to dump the bucket to hope to get out, you don't need to fix it. I would sure hate to be without front wheel drive on a loader.
