Ok, I have tried cork gaskets and rubber gaskets, I have torqued the
bowl hard and light. I have pre-oiled the gasket. They usually leak
for a week or so then seal up. (some never seal). Do you have any better
procedures before I Permatex everything between the steering wheel and
the radiator cap?
I DON'T KNOW WHY THE FOLLOWING CRAP IS ADDED TO MY POST, BUT I CANT EDIT IT OUT.

If it is for a gas bowl, cork is best. It should seal hand tightened. Make sure that all of the old gasket material is cleaned off. It could be your sediment bowl housing is bent, if so it will not seal.

Yea we had trouble with a few this year. The best result we had was soaking in atf over night.

Also there are two sizes of the gaskets. The smaller one won't seal the larger one. HTH Tracy

Almost all that i have had troble sealing is due to somebody over tightning it. It will actually pull the pot metal down where the clamp fastens. Put the bowl on with no gasket it should touch all around if it rocks back and forth replace the housing. Put the new one on finger tight shouldnt leak

I agree with Larry. The only time I’ve had issues with the gaskets constantly leaking Has been when the base was warped. This happens when the bowl gets over Tightened to stop leaking. We use the cork gaskets and we keep about half a dozen on hand. Gaskets are cheaper than gas. Just finger tight until it stops leaking.

I soak it in gasoline for a while, but not so long that it swells up and won't fit, then put it in place, tighten with reasonable pressure, open the petcock so that gas fills the bowl, and it seals up. the only time I eve had trouble with the gasket is when I put it in dry.

Had this problem on my D 15 . I had Steve send me both kinds of gaskets . Thinking the black rubber one worked best for me . Thanks

I just put a new cork gasket on my D-14. I never pre-soak them and they don’t leak. Mine start leaking after I remove the bowl for cleaning.

I found that the rubber ones held up better. I would remove the gasket and turn it over, and give the bowl a slight twist just as it was seating when tightening.

I got a roll of double thick cork, at an auction, years ago, been cuttin gaskets for fuel bowls outta it, for years. I got a set of gasket punches, from HF, that cuts outer and inner diameter at the same time, works good, as long as some ape hasn't bent up the housing!

I was told there is a difference in size between a gas and diesel gasket. I think it was Allen at R&R equipment told me that.

Dad would 'cuss me when I would pull the glass bowl off of the XT or the F2 to dump crap and clean the screens  . Granted, the XT could be a real BI^#H to NOT leak, but I've NEVER had an issue with the F2 sealing . IMO, too tight is a recipe for a leak when it comes to those gaskets. We run the screens in both of them BTW  .

It's been over tightened and it's junk but you aren't out anything but time if you try to smack it with a mallet on a flat surface to flatten it out. Never take a pliers to tighten them when what is needed is just a gasket......... happens a lot though.

be sure to install screen after the gasket the screen sits in lip on the bowl.
I soak my corks in water and twist the bowl with wet gasket.

i find the biggest problem with leaking sediment bowl gaskets is the sediment bowl needs to be scraped very hard to clean the oxided and corroded aluminum were the face of the gasket seals , just cleaning the old gasket off does not get it clean enought if some one is having trouble
