I delivered 2 snow plows for my son as shipping rates went crazy since he quoted the units .
First plow I dropped in Indiana by Martinsville , next one in Ohio by Athens . Picked up a Moto Guzzi motorcycle in Athens for the return trip . Was running in rain it seems more than dry weather and was surprised on how wet field were along the way . Seems not a lot of corn was very high and seemed a lot of fields were still not planted . Some areas standing water in fields . Illinois was somewhat better in areas I traveled along I 74 , when I got to area close to Iowa was dark and traffic was all I could see . Seems highest priced gas was Illinois at $4.74 a gallon where it varied from $4.25 to $4.54 in some area . filled the Jeep yesterday here at Sam's club and $3.99 , and across the street was $4.24 . Pulling a trailer behind my Jeep Cherokee - V6 -3.2 engine averaged 22.6 MPG for the trip Left Wednesday around noon , delivered 1 unit Thursday morning , picked up bike in Athens Thursday night , delivered the plow Friday morning in Sugar Grove and back on the road to home . Got home Friday night around midnight - little under 2,000 mile trip Edited by Coke-in-MN - 30 May 2022 at 10:43pm |

That is a few miles for sure, specially in the rain. Glad you made it home OK. Have you gotten to ride the Moto Guzzi yet?

How's life in Athens looking these days? I lived there for about 8 years. Pretty country down there. Glad you had a safe trip.

Glad you had a safe trip Coke! Driving in the rain as you well know with many years truck driving experience can be dangerous. I don't know if you got into the rain we had here during the time of your trip but we got heavy rain downpours with minimal visibility. We received 1" of rain in an hour!

At times the rain was so heavy it cut visibility down to 100 yards or so and speeds down to 40 MPH , would run for 10 miles and lighten up and a few more miles and dry roads .
Was on and of on Thursday with different areas seeing puddles in fields with sun shining so just missed the downpour . Picked up the bike from a Equipment dealer in Athens ( Allpower Equipment ) and got to talk to owner and load bike at his residence there in Athens . Spent some time talking motorcycles and other things , nice guy. Moto Guzzi V10 Centauro - 1999 with under 3,000 miles on the bike -https://www.moto-data.net/media/moto-guzzi/pics/moto-guzzi-v10-centauro-1996-1997[1].jpg Sons new ride so he offered me to take it for a ride - he put 15 quick miles on it but has decided to replace the tires before doing much more on it himself .
Just what was needed is a few more motorcycles around here as now have 10 of my own in house garage and 10 more in shop , he seems to have the Guzzi market cornered though as has trailer out back with 20 or so machines and parts store there . |

Coke I’m glad you made it home safe.
Are we allowed any details on the motorcycle you brought home? I went to a family reunion this past weekend. I rode the bike over. Road home in the rain. The first 100 miles was rough. My back was hurting from the tension of wet roads. The closer I got to home the better it got. My wife got me some nice rain gear. Glad I took it with me. I gassed up in Fayetteville AR and decided to rest a bit. It cleared and the last leg was very nice. |

I love the rain and therefore for me the best travel is when I get under a little rain and cloudy weather. That's because after such rains, the air is very fresh and cool, which is pleasant to breathe. Most of the time I travel in a van that I bought three years ago. This van is very convenient for traveling, it even has a water collector on the roof so that it is convenient to collect water when it runs out. I adore mobile homes and dream of buying a huge mobile home instead of my own house to travel. Modern mobile homes are insanely cool inside, there are all the amenities for a full life inside. Good luck to you guys!
