My 720 has been repowered with a Kohler, 20hp engine. After running for approximately 10 minutes or so the oil light comes on, don't hear any difference in the engine, if I shut it off and restart it, light goes out and will not come back on for another 5 to 10 minutes and the process can be repeated. How does the sending unit function on these engines, does it sense oil level or what?

Does your Kohler have an oil filter? That would indicate if it were splash lubed or full flow oiling.
Either way I'd check for a loose wire on the sending unit or a bare spot on said wire.

On my Magnum 18 the port for the oil sending unit is right above the filter.
