Hi All, I have a 1958 D14 with the adjustable wheels filled with calcium. One of the wheels is rotted on the edge of the rim, and about 12" of the edge is rusted through. The wheel still holds air but I have some stumps to pull and wonder if this will destroy the tire. Let me know what you think. Thanks

Unless you're afraid of the 'correct cops', snag some 26" combine rims. I'm 1/2 and 1/2 ( 3 each ) on my 3 D-14s..... You 'could' repair your rim ( $ and time ) , buy new rim ($$$$$) or get combine rims. I've got 3 centers here, and lots of clamps , so some time ago I got rid of 3 rotted rims..... Jay

You can use it for a while, but the tube will give out sooner or later. The tube will bulge through the rusted area and the jagged metal will tear the rubber. I have had my local fab shop weld in new metal on rusted out rims and the came out looking as good as new.

With calcium chloride filled tires, It's not IF the rims will rot out, but WHEN will they rot out. The sooner you remove the tire the better chance you can save the tire. As for the tube, throw it away.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |
