Hello,

Bought an early RC last week. It does not have a temperature gauge and also not the hole for it in the hood. Were the first RC’s without temperature gauge maybe?
I know the early wc unstyled were.
And if yes, what are also characteristics of early RC’s?

Thanks!

Can't say, but post your serial number and we'll tell you if it's an early one.

I'd say the early ones had a water outlet that did not have a provision for a thermostat, they do however have a spot for a temperature gauge in the casting. As with the early B tractors there is a plug that fits these water outlet gauge holes.  I have 2 NOS RC water outlets like that. My RC tractor has a thermostat and temperature gauge.
Also as with early production B tractors, electric starting and lighting would have been an option. This was rarely purchased as most farmers never spent money they didn't need to. Those that made it through the depression understood the difference between "needs" and "wants" unlike most anyone in today's world.
If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.

Thanks for your answer. In the casting there is a spot indeed, but there is no gauge and also no hole in the hood.

Thanks,

I used to own RC 8 and it did not have a temp gauge,  also it did not have electric starter  however it did have the starter gear on the flywheel.  What is the S/N of your tractor? One more thing my engine block had a K stamp after the number indicating it was a Kerosine tractor.
