Ive been running beans the last few days, everything has been running great except a squeak, growl sound when seperators on. I ran a hopper a hopper then around 2 oclock after i dumped it started running a higher boost pressure and seemed like it was struggling. Couldn't hardly get over 3 mph with a 18ft head. Finally got the semi loaded and shut it down. Started back up 45 minutes later and it was still lacking a some but better, then around 6 to 630 it started running like it was the previous day, lots of power and not moving the boost gauge as much at 3.5 mph. Was todays temperature making it wierd or is there major issues coming? It burns about a gallon and a half of oil on a 9 hour day running beans, it that normal? Thanks in advance for any help.

The oil consumption is not "normal".It may be acceptable,I don't know. My brother had an HD11B crawler with a 516 and did not burn oil like that.

I think I'd be looking to see if the discharge paddles are still on the rotor or if the concave has dropped down at the rear. Something is WRONG. Figure it out.

Dr. Allis, what should the boost pressure be at? Gauge is at 6 or 8 just at full throttle not cutting or moving.
I found squeak, bearing going out on clean grain drive. Also have some cylinder bars that have wear on left side of feeder house chain. Bean head had been on R50 so throat isnt opened up the width of the R7, could be causing it not to feed right. Paddles on impeller are wore too, that can be causing power problems to, looking at putting a chopper in it. Was a kansas machine so mainly did wheat. It probably hadn't ever done 50 bu beans. Guess i just have 2 wore out combines that need rebuilt. |

I said the paddles on the end of the rotor !! This assumes it has the original style rotor as it had from the factory. Two rubber paddles on the discharge end. They cannot be bent backwards !!! They must be leaning into their rotation to scoop up the fodder to throw it into the discharge impeller. They might be GONE and not even there !!!! THIS IS ON THE OLDER "P-1" STYLE PROCESSOR. Leaving the R-50 throat covers on defeats the purpose of an R-7 combine....get them removed.

This rotor has four paddles on it, two are almost straight up and down but the others are leaning back some.

Four discharge paddles was someone's improvement to the P-1 rotor, so that shouldn't be the problem. I can't help you without looking at it. I'm thinking worn out helical bars or missing helical bars or worn out cylinder bars, etc. Have you given the cage a 100% lookover to make sure there isn't a hole blown in it somewhere ??? 100% means top and bottom, front and back, side to side. That's what those doors are for inside the grain tank.

Im going to look it over some more and try to get some pictures. I am putting in new paddles since they are cheap. The cylinder bars are individual 20 to 22 inchs long. That is P-3, right? P-1 bars would have ran full length if i recall from reading. Helical bars might be worn by the looks but not for sure. I think i was have some issues with the beans because they were fungicided, dry stems but just tough. But it shouldn't have a power problem with that size head.

Ive been working on the machine a little bit and have some pictures to upload tonight of some wear areas that could reduce power. Also it has a crackle when started up, like an injector isn't firing. It sounds better after it warms up, but still sounds like a miss in it.
Im also installing a better bin fill auger and tube. Whats a good way to get the auger out? It doesn't want to unscrew from the ujoint. |

R7s all had the Allis 516 unless it's been repowered. The 516 is a very good engine. It should've been in the larger tractors IMO.

I knew that but his description of a crackle got me thinking. Wondering if it got bastardized with a Duetz. Sounds like a firing ring going. I have sorta like PTSD to that sound. Edited by victoryallis - 07 Apr 2019 at 8:16pm |

Interesting thread. High oil consumption & loss of power - sounds like it’s intake has an obstruction (dirty air filter? mud dobbers nests inside aftercooler? Turbo hose pipe flaking off inside? Etc). My best to you. Hope it’s easy to identify.

There are some photos. Some of parts that are being replaced. Sorry its been few months since i posted that many pictures.
It still has the 516 motor in it, I think its just over 4400 hours. I suspect maybe an injector but I've heard about the deal with the Deutz. I might check the air intakes to see if anything has clogged them but dont think so. The filter only has 20 or 30 hours on it, and its cleaner than compared to how the R 50 would look with that many hours in beans. It started burning a little oil from the last owner and some people have said its normal for that motor to. I think I put two quarts in it after a 10 hour day this last fall. That seems execesive in my opinion.
Also the front feeder drum shaft has been pushed over to the left hand side and has beat up the stop blocks. I thougt the shaft was broke but it was when i pull it out. It was starting to round on one side and the block that the spring bolts go through are egged real bad. Could that be the problem? Havent checked to see if chain jumped sprocket up top yet, it looks to be running strait. Edited by Daehler - 08 Apr 2019 at 11:04pm |

![]() ![]() With the shaft and hole for tension bolt being worn, will it make the shaft be pushed to one side? Chain doesn't appear to have jump a sprocket when I crawled up in it.

The R50 filler plate is what I would blame your feeder chain issues on. gotta feed it evenly so the chain pulls evenly. That drum is free to walk around on that hex shaft.
How much blowby does it have? |

Taking the fillerplate out made the difference on feeding.
As for blowby, it has a little out from the breather tube but its not terribly bad. Haven't checked where the oil fill is in a since 17 but it didn't have much there then. Rotor bars at feed chain are wore some, that could be some power consumption. They might have an eight inch wore off |

Bringing this back up. After looking at the rotor bars, they look to be worn and have a round edge instead of being square. That must be a lot of my issue. Plus for some reason the overfeed auger has been taken out. It does have cylinder tailings return. Would not having that auger affect much? It doesn't make sense for already threshed crop be dropping back down to the feed chain. Want get the thing in shape for next year since it might be going over 4 to 500 acres.
