Are all wide fronts that go on a D17 the same, or did the front bolster change sometime with the series. I found a nice D17 series 4 that is coming home next weekend, but it is narrow front, and I was thinking if I could find a wide front for it, I might get a loader for it and then sell my D15 with the loader. Thanks for any help.

Also, I am assuming that it is just like the WD45 wide front in that you not only need the wide front but you need the bolster and that lower front weight piece that the wide front pivots in.

You need one from a series 3 or 4 to fit a series 4 (and if it's a gasser, it has to come from another gasser). The rear pivot bracket is held to the bellhousing with four 1/2" bolts instead of two 1/2" bolts. This change was made probably around 1960 or 1961. Also I seem to remember the bolts the go into the front support are 5/8" bolts instead of 1/2" like the oldest D17's were, so stick with a newer model and all will fit fine.

I agree with Dr Allis. Also, there's a difference with the wishbone support, earlier units had a square bar design support and later had a more channel design, allowing quicker visual recognition.

Like Dr A says, one from a diesel is longer and won't work on a gas unless you do some modification.
