    Posted: 10 Apr 2011 at 9:40am
On my 80 series mounted plow that I recently acquired, the front coulter beam has been cut off, and the reason why, I believe, is that the beam would interfere with hooking up to the tractor.  Do I have to run without a front coulter?  Thanks.

Maybe it was used on a brand X tractor that the drawbar was in the way??

No, the plow seems to be just too close to the tractor.  Even on my 180, it seems awfully close.  I don't know how long the original bracket was.  I will be hooking it up again this week, so I will take a photo and post it.

In my plow bottoms book, all flat coulters mount to the plow beams. On my 2000 plow because the shanks are taller there are coulter beams on the plow shanks.

On my 4-16 Model 74 3-point plow I use on my One-eighty, the front coutler runs very close to the right 3-point lift arm.  This would cause the plow to plug badly with corn stalk trash.  I removed the front coulter and that eliminated the problem.  No difference in how it plows otherwise with the front coulter off.  Mike
