Many years ago my brother and some cousins used to pull weeds out of uncle's cotton fields. We couldn't be trusted to use a hoe. Pretty sure we made $2 a day and Aunt K always fixed us a huge lunch. Thought about this yesterday when saw two bus loads of workers picking tomatoes. Imagine I'd fall out before I picked a basket now. Good old days?!?

Discussed that a couple days ago. Walking beans and detassling corn paid good if willing to work.
Don't see that no more. |

We were a lot younger back then. My back wouldn't let me do that now or load square bales of hay out of the field. I appreciate those that are willing to do that hard labor these days and I hope they are paid a decent wage.

Yes... started as soon as you could walk and pull, or chop off, weeds. When you were younger you got one row to clean, then as you grew the number of rows also grew. I think the greatest we ever did was 6 rows : course there were not as many weeds in those rows. but you had to keep your eyes extra sharp to see all the rows. Peace

We chopped weeds out of corn/beans. Dad did not want any corn damaged so we had to be careful. One evening dad was out there with us, My brother would end up chopping off a stalk of corn every once in a while. Dad told him to go to the house. We always felt the brother did that on purpose to get out of the work.

Same here,--- grew up with the hoe and graduated to dads Oliver 70 at the ripe old age of 8 and a lot of water under the bridge since then! No wonder our bodies are so weak now!
