has anyone ever tried cutting diamond tread tires for pulling? I'm thinking cutting each diamond into a "V". Any experience?

I'm just thinking while I'm typing, but one of the things you want puling tires to do is "clean" (get the loose dirt away from the tire). I'm thinking a "V" cut on each diamond would lead to a lot of loose dirt staying under the tires.
I could very well be wrong, but that's just my 2 cents... |

There always has to be someone to try it first. I have seen brand new tires run backwards on winning tractors. But that was years ago in a farm tractor class. I also saw a W9 with an earthmover tire on on side and a regular tractor tire on the other, the tractor tire spun first. I've been giving a lot of thought to the same idea lately myself. 18.4X16.1 tires in R-1 tread are hard to come by, but the diamond treads are plentiful. I wasn't thinking of doing each diamond in a V-cut, but doing a V-cut across the entire tire.

Great to see Paul B on this Pulling Forum
Tires? What is a body to do? I thought I had my CA set up in 3500 competition stock class weighted up with water and wheel weights running 13-6 24 Firestones. I got the suprize of my life when a 24 year old showed up with a weighted up bone stock SFW CA with what looked like 11-2 BFG rock hard ragged rubber as old as the tractor and out pulled me easy by 24 feet. The clay track was exceptionally dry and hard as concrete. So hard that my rubber left black smeers where I spun out early. Are the biggest 24s you can fit on your rims better than what Allis thought was big enough?. This kids CA was not the only one to out pull me. I ended up 4th out of 6 in the class. Third was a D14 running 26in combine wheels and big wide tires. Weighted up to 4000 competitive the D17 got me by more than just a little bit. On this hard track the bigger tires spun faster than narrow rubber. |
