OK, started of by reading what I could on here about troubleshooting generators and have had some success.
Initially I got nothing out of it so I took it apart and cleaned it up, cleaned up the armature where the brushes make contact and cleaned the grooves with a hacksaw blade.
Now when I hit it with power it motors.
My question is just how "energetic" should it be. It spins right up and runs smoothly but it isn't particularly fast and not much torque there.
I don't know how strong the charge in my battery is so that may be part of it.

Thanks for the help so far.

That sounds about right to me. They don't spin real fast and not much in power.
gotta remember that it was designed to create electrcity, not to power something else.

Thanks,
I sure hope its good. For some reason I really want to keep it 6 volt but if it comes down to replacing the genny I probably going to go ahead and convert to 12V.

The ones that I have that did test good motored up good, but like you said it doesn't seem like it is making alot of power.  As long as it does it, you know that the generator is working and it's on to all the other stuff like wiring and cutout.
