I finally have an AC mower...at least i did untill my son saw it. lol. got the beauty on trade Friday afternoon just in time for the winter chill and frost.haha. was to busy during the nicer part of this weekend helping my parents prep for new carpet to get to put it to work, but I did catch a little gawking time in between. I am good at over looking and would like to know where might the date of birth and/or the MFR number be located on these machines? I would like to locate a book for it and that number would help.

Serial number should be on the right hand side of the body. It would be right above your right foot when you're sitting on the tractor. It is a stick on emblem and if you happen to pressure wash over it...it most likely will blow off and away in pieces (don't ask how I know). Good machines. Den

A fella and his grandson from Martinsville In restored it a few years back, and they did a swell job. I am very proud to have it in my tractor family. Didn't get the pic took before he got his serious tractor operator face, but my son had as big a smile as i did when I first sat on it. He is also very attached to my wd and wd45. He is 3 and is already asking if we are going to paint them. lol.

Hello, I got a Allis-Chalmers 616 hydro last weekend from my father-in-law he needed help selling it and he is asking $600.00 and I don't know anything about Allis-Chalmers. It doesn't run at the moment and I don't know if that's a good price for it or not but, I want to get it running since it will turn over and run on starting fluid. I'm thinking it's something with the carburetor but I've never took one of these apart before. I've been trying to find a service manual for it I've found the operators manual. Every service manual I find someone wants some stupid price for it. I'm hoping I can find someone who will help me out and email me a service manual. I'm hoping someone can give me advice if it's worth $600 and email me the service manual. I tried to upload a picture but it wouldn't allow me but my email is below and yes this is one of my real emails I wasn't going to post my everyday personal email and I can send you pictures or send me service manual please and thanks everyone Email is snoopdeeznuts@yahoo.com

First off welcome to the site. The site has been hit by scammers lately so with you just joining it raises red flags. If your legitimate then you will get help here. Briefly, the Onan engine in the 616 requires a person with significant background of engine troubleshooting. If you have never taken a carb apart it can be difficult to understand how it works and to be able to correctly troubleshoot its issue if in fact the carburetor is the issue. Timing, points, condenser all have to be functioning and set correctly for it to run. At $600 that’s a good buy and well worth taking it to a qualified mechanic to get it running like it should.

I've took many carburetors apart and I'm a diesel mechanic but I've never worked on a Allis-Chalmers before. That's why I was hoping to find a service manual just to help me along and I'm not paying $60 for a dam service manual that I'll only need this one time. With the way dam gas prices are I can't afford to buy a service manual. I get it that I'm new and some people may think I'm a scam or whatever but I assure you I'm legit and just trying to get this old thing running. It's in great shape with the paint and little rust and it's all original. Thanks for the info though

Didn’t me an to ruffle your feathers. I will gladly scan the area on the carb from my manual and send it to the email listed. From the sound of your post it appeared you were not mechanically inclined so my fault for assuming. If I had a pdf file I would send it but I don’t. Simplicity website used to have downloadable manuals on these, not sure if they still do.

Just want to clarify the tractor model described in your post. An Allis Chalmers 616 Hydro lawn tractor is different than the Allis Chalmers 616/620/720 series sub compact tractor in the original first post here. Simplicity made the series and were also under their 4040/4041/9020 models.
This look like yours? Or like the original post?

My dad had one of those except his was the Deutz-Allis lime green version. At 6’2” he looked quite funny mowing with it lol. But it lasted for 20 plus years until a rod went through the side of the block.
