Hi, my 1988 Fd5 dozer I've had since new, don't do alot with it now, but once in a while, it has a piece of my heart.
2yrs ago noticed steering didn't work intermittantly, but then ok after warmup. It was like the clutches didn't disengage, because either left or right brake would try to stop or put drag on whole machine.
Blew a ring out shortly thereafter,i'm sure unrelated.  sat for 1.5yrs while motor got a rebuilt.  went to pick up, no steering, added couple gallons, no steering.
I let sit over winter, now I have in my barn to get painted, fluid full - no steering.
Drained old fluid (real black), new filter-(I can't remember ever changing that one), new hytrans fluid, no steering.
I will try to play w/adjustment bolt when done painting, seems good 2-3" play in pedals before hitting solid.
The adjustment bolts keep trying to work their way up, replace retaing clip once, a pain.
I welded a T-stop above one, looks like I'll have to do the other, unless you have an idea.
or does anyone have a straight job for a pretty dozer?
Thanks in advance for you reading this novel and any assistance you might have.Rick

the valve may be sticking , the one that controls hyd flow to the clutches. Had the bolts shear on mine and "O" ring blow out .. Got a couple rings as samples from place in Mpls. as were lot cheaper that F/A (free samples) and they had them in stock.
