I have a 39 wc that is getting the best of me. It was stuck when I got it and I see it has been into before, my problem? I lined up the timing marks on the cam and crank shaft and installed the mag with governor so the timining lug was pointing to the timing mark for 1. I couldnt get it to fire, I took the front cover off and checked the marks again and found when the marks lined up 1 cyl was not on compression stroke that isnt correct is it? I took the gear of the cam and spun it till I could line up the mark with the cam shaft and put the gear on. 1 cyl is on top, cam and crank gears marks are lined up, mag and gov are installed pointing to timming mark on mag cover and I see the timming mark on the flywheel thru the hole on the right side. Is that how it shouold be? thanks Dan

I thought timing marks on WC were always viewed thru the clutch access plate, it is on top of my unstyled but I think it moved under on the elec start housings.   My B is a hole on the side and a devil to catch.

Disregard the information below. Thinking of the wrong engine.

Probly mixed up the timing marks between the one on the cam gear that matches the crankshaft gear mark and the one that matches the governor gear mark. The cam should have two marks. One a slash and the other a dot or zero.
