I am trying to remove the pivot shaft for the brake assembly on the right side on the h4 crawler so I can pull the steering clutch. I have removed the roll pin shown on the parts manual. I have tried to beat the rod it out but its not moving. I did put a porta power on it but it looked as though it was moving the case. It sound very solid when striking with a sledge. After talking to randall there is apparently some difference between the h4 and 653. Has anyone pulled this rod out on an Allis h4 crawler. With the roll pin in the shaft it will turn a little every time you hit the brake so maybe its got a large groove cut into it. I have the brake band loose so its not holding it. I don't have a torch so heating it I can not do. I am just about to the point where I am going to get the metal saw out . All help is appreciated. Thanks Norm

I'm not sure if it'd work for the same part, but we were able to get things to work better after spinning the clutch pack.brake we were working on. I don't know if the machine is in a situation where you can put it in drive a bit and drive the one track just be REALLY careful to make sure the other track is clutched out completely so you don't end up having a run away machine on your hands.

My right pin was a real bear. It would turn, but not slide. I actually got a grinding stone on a drill that was about the same size as the hole and cleaned it out and maybe enlarged it some. After some heating, and grinding on the end of the pin, it finally started to move. My guess is that the end was enlarged the last time it was installed as it had punch marks on the end. It was almost as if it was staked in place.
