I am looking to put a loader on my Allis Chalmers D17, Series 3, and after reading numerous posts on here I just want to make sure I understand correctly.

1.)  400 and 500 Series loaders will fit on a D17 without any modifications?

2.)  The 400 Series loader came with a front hydraulic pump and oil storage in the left hand side of the loader frame?

3.)  To run a loader independent from the rest of my hydraulic system on my D17, Series 3, I have to have a loader with the front hydraulic pump?

Now I have a few questions.

1.)  Are the 400 and 500 Series loaders the only Allis Chalmers loaders that tilt cylinders for the bucket and will fit a D17, Series 3?  Or are there others?

2.)  Besides the 400 Series, is there any other series of loaders made by Allis Chalmers that has the front hydraulic pump that would fit my D17, Series 3?

3.)  I know where there is a Model 17 or 217 Allis Chalmers loader that I have been told would fit my D17 but it has a trip bucket and if I understand right there would be no way to modify it to work with my D17 because I only have one hydraulic output.  Is that right?

Thanks for your time and help.  Also anyother info you want to share about putting a loader on my D17 would be greatly appreciated.

I have a drive setup for a front pump that I took off. Your on your own as to a mount and pump because this one had a hydraulic oil reservoir in front of the radiator, that would be in the way for a loader.

Not all 400 series loaders had the built in oil storage tank built on them,

Any loader you put on your d17 series 3 will require you to run an auxilary pump for 2 way hydraulics.

you would have no problems with a model 17 loader on your tractor. but it will only have "1 way" hydraulics,

You could always put on a remote valve with three spools, two for the loader and one for the lift arms

Kinda like this but with a three spool valve, that way you can run a hydraulic bucket, have down pressure and une your rear lift all at the same time.

My D17 diesel has the optional 3 spool valve, which you could run two remote cylinders besides the lift arms.  Those are tough to find and they did work ok, the main drawback there was you needed low volume/high pressure cylinders on the loader.  the valve Denis has pictured looks good, just need a three spool valve and it does get kinda cramped for space back there.
