I am putting a 262 gas engine in a D17. I won't have the power steering pump by the distributor on the 262 engine. I am putting a front pump on the engine for hydraulic. I have a valve that has a 2 gpm priority flow for steering. Can I hook the front pedestal to the hydraulic reservoir and hook the pressure line from the pump to where the pressure from the pump goes into the pedestal. I would hook both the suction line from the pedestal and the fill/breather port to the top of the reservoir. The main difference would be that the pedestal would be full of oil all the time, not under pressure just enough to gravity flow back to the reservoir right above the pedestal. Here are pictures of the pump drive;

This has been on here for a day, I guess if no one knows any reason not to, I am going to try it. A 560 Farmall is kinda like that. Universal hydraulic transmission fluid should get along with everything in there.
