Hey Everyone,

I know it's not AC, but it's still orange and it's still Wisconsin Smile.

I have an Ariens GT18 garden tractor.  It's a great machine.  I have a question on the rear PTO, though.

Right now, as long as the engine is running, the PTO is spinning.  There's no switch like there is for the front/mid PTO.

I was wondering (before diving in too deep) if anyone knew if the rear PTO has an electric clutch that I could install a switch for, or if I just have to live with it always spinning.

I'm asking because it would be nice to not have to shut down the tractor to stop the 3pt tiller I have for it from spinning.

Thanks in advance,
Ryan

New Holland (original tractor) was bought by Ariens - some did use a electric clutch on the rear PTO but the early versions used just the straight through design .
On the tiller there is a lift handle that releases tension on the 2 belts that power the tiller - I have 3 S16 NH tractors which use the same PTO you have - also tiller with the belt idler system - works good for me - just the inconvenience of reaching back to drop the rod out of the slot that holds tension on belts .
Unsure if you can find a electric clutch unit - been looking for one myself but tractors are scarce to find now .
I was looking for a snow blower for mine but so far no luck - also looking for gearbox for mower deck as I have 3 - 54" decks but missing gearboxes from 2

I had a S-16 years ago. Went through 2 decks due to gearbox failure.

Nice heavy duty machines for the most part

The problem is that I am not using an Ariens tiller. So there is no lever to engage.

Yes there is a electric clutch for the machines - now only problem is finding one .

Think I went through 4 gear boxes - bought one new deck complete for what one dealer wanted for just gearbox.
Last gearbox I bought dealer charged me $400 for and it lasted 5 hours - took it back to him - had verbal disagreement on warranty - went to his supplier to settle it - they looked at the invoice choked on price and told me guy had ripped me off for $200 -
as when the box locked up it ripped top of deck also they sold me full new deck for the cost on the invoice + $100.
