Found a pin at an estate sale the other day that said, "Allis-Chalmers York Works. I know that it refers to York PA. Anybody know what kind of Allis-Chalmers activity that took place there?

Thanks.

There were two plant in York.  The one that was downtown made large Valves and some components for Nuclear Submarines.

The one that was on the west edge of town made hydro turbines.  Some of the ones that were made there are located at several large hydroplants in the western USA.  The Grand Coulee Dam has some, there are three plants on the Snake River in Washington and Oregon, and so on.

I worked there for a few years till the Hydro Turbine Division closed.

It's a shame those things can't be built here.
