Had a chance at an 11-B awhile back with a ground speed governor.  Know a guy with a ground speed governor on an EP, and he swears by it.  I would like to try one out someday- anyone on here used one?

They are a useless addition IMO Trev because they do nothing that the operator cant do with the decelerator. A friend who has run powershift 11`s since they came out 50 years ago and ran about six different ones throughout those years contracting in forestry work, told me to delete mine and the push start pump at first opportunity. I`m glad he did as it made all the mechanicals and trans hydraulics under the floor plates so much more accessible with them gone. I`m sure AC realised the same thing as the did not fit them to last production runs did they. They certainly deleted them from the last HD6EP`s

That makes sense- it is pretty "busy" under the floorboard as it is.  It was a rare option for sure.

yes I could never work out their reasoning for having one either. A foot on the decelerator does exactly the same thing, you ease the tractor into the load with it, and open it up for more push.
My only thought was that it was a way of making the ground speed more constant for operators who were only used to solid geardrive instead of this new fangled 'powershift' thing

Hey Merv
I think AC had the crazy idea that the EP's would get used for AG tractors where a fixed ground speed may have been a requirement for some drawn implements. I think I read somewhere that the ground speed control governors where standard fitment on HD6EP's through to about 1965 (about S/N 18500) and after that they were optional. My 65 model S/N 18908 did have it fitted originally as did my 68 model but both had been removed because they were a PIA in most circumstances. Both my 73 models never had the governor fitted.

Cheers
