Iv got an old David Bradley walk behind that I'm tired if fighting with the old B/s engine. I thinking of repowering it with harbor freight engine. So this is two part question how good are the harbor freight engines one , and two dose anyone know what the wright size pulley for one of those I think mine a four inch and if i don't just idle the engine you have to run with it. Thanks

I used a harbor freight engine on my last David Bradley and I would definitely recommend it. It won't look original and won't work with a hood if you have one, but its reliable and easy to stop. I had a 2 inch pulley on mine and it was a decent pace, not too slow not too fast. The 6 hp is all you need and it has a 1 inch spindle for the pulley. Hope this helps!

What is the problem with the engine you have? What is the model # of the tractor? Should be an I.D plate on the side of the transmission gearbox.

It the second searis they made but it doesn't have the original engine anyway. Like I said I peaced it togather out of stuff I just found around. It has a briges 5 hp it will run good then flood and then start missing and you'll have to pull the choke to keep it running. Iv done all I know to do iv sanded the flywheel reset the gap on the coil new plug cleaned the gas tank and carb. Replaced the rubber diaphragm in the carb and air filter. I'm just tired of working on it spending money on it and having the same problem

Check the gasket between the carb and the block. I've had them suck air in on water pumps with these engines. Makes it run crappy.

I think I'm going to try the gasket between carb and engine block on the ol gal. And I'd like to have plow cultivators and few things for it all iv got is a disc and home made trailer. Wouldn't have the disc but found it at the scrap yard in crush pile

I ended up with a new B & S 6.5 on mine,---used a 2" pulley, runs too fast but cant figure how to slow it down,--and yes the original engine was a 1-1/2 hp, either a pancake or vertical style engine! thanks; ac fleet

the smaller pulley you put on the motor the slower it will go. around a 1-1\2 pulley was on them with place for two belts
