Hello, My dad was an AC man all his life, having farmed about 100 acres until a few years ago, gave up farming himself and now rents the ground. I was approached the other day about if my dad had a two row planter. He wanted to buy it to restore it. My dad does still have one. My question is, is this planter worth little or nothing or what kind of money can I expect to get out of it??? Thanks! |

Thanks for your two cents!! I had no idea and my dad would have no clue. No doubt it isn't doing him any good but I just don't want to give it away. I will have to dig it out. I know it worked several years ago as he would use it to replant rows that may have not come out, etc.. I am sure it has all the working parts. May be a little rusty but other than that. Thanks again!! |

Post a picture, tell where it's located and the guys here can tell you pretty close to what you can get out of it. I have a 2 row with markers, fert att and 4 sets of plates, I would not take $400 for it.

Thanks again. I am located near Quincy, IL As soon as the snow goes down, I will do that. I actually live east of Quincy in a small town, Camp Point. I am sure glad I came across this forum. Very interesting. Who would have thought! I assume a three bottom plow isn't worth much? I know he has one of those. I assume the older Gleaner combines aren't worth much?? |

Most people don't mess with the small ones, but some people love them for a small operation yet. If it looks anything like Chad's planter, it's definately worth $500. I got one that is close to Chad's but not quite as nice, and I gave $250 for it but it was a deal and I drove from Wi to OH to get it. And I don't think I'd let it go for anywhere near that. I used it to plant sweet corn last year and will do the same this spring. |

Welcome to the forum. I also have a two row drill planter that I was fortunate enough to have given to me a couple years back. I became aquainted with an old AC fella at one of our local shows and while talking to him mentioned that I would like to find a two row AC planter to go with my CA, as my dad had one I remembered from years ago. He said he had one and if I wanted it and would restore it he would give it to me. Well I jumped at the chance and went and picked it up. It was in pretty sad shape but it was all there. After total disassembly, sandblasting, priming and paiinting and reassembly I think it turned out really nice. It's a great piece to have to display plus it's quite functional and I planted sweet corn and beans with it last year too. The following summer I had it hooked up to the CA at the same show when my friend showed up, he sure was proud to see it restored and we sat in the shade and talked for several hours that day. He sure is a wealth of information on old AC equipment. As for pricing of what you have, of course condition will play a big part in worth. If it's complete I think probally around the $500-$600 price range is pretty close. They're not making any of this stuff any more and find parts to restore one is pretty hard. If you decide to sell it I'm sure someone here will give it a good home. Thanks, Darrell

My two row is as good as a lot of newer planters out there! I will not put a price on it, Somebuddy might take it! lol
All I have done to it is install new knocker rollers and knocker springs in it.

| I asked the same question about age of my planter and the best answer I've been able to get is the one I have was produced somewhere in the mid 50's. Since there's no serial number that I've ever found on mine and AC manufactured what they called a drill planter with minor changes over the years with earlier models being pin hitch and straight fertilizer boxes, to late model units being snap coupler and fiberglass boxes. If someone more knowledgable on the subject can help out with more info, I'd be interested to know more. Thanks, Darrell |

I asked my dad this morning when he got his or how old it was and he said 1953, so not for sure if that was a good year. I will have to talk to him more as he grew up working on AC's all his life, farming with them, being service manager and finally retiring. Will keep you updated and hope to get pix posted soon but as you know in the midwest the snow is still around. |

| Both of the planter shown are WD planters. The WD planter differs from the CA planter with the lift mechanism for the row markers.On the CA planter you had to lift and lower the markers with a rope. I have a CA planter that I have been using for 7 years. Bob |
