Read a cool article the other day about a guy that removed the Hand clutch housing and put a WC tranny in it's place. Made a coupler shaft to the original transmission and now has 16 gear choices (4x4).
It was being debated if legal since it is using stock AC components

I guess Thompson did something similar with their HiCrops?

Too many choices . Only need 3 gears . R,1,2. but you need right ratio for hp and tire set up, I thought of that set up but rather save weight and reduce rotating mass which robs power. Keep it simple

I have done two like that works good and the wc trans is lighter than the handclutch housing. Usap told me they didn't have a prob with the two trans setup and have been pulling them with mahnke for several years.

Well thats interesting i was wondering how usap thought of them. I interpreted the rules a little different than Mr. Peterson in his discussion on this subject regarding the usap rules. Have any of these types of tractors been able to pull at Tunica? I've never checked in about their rules

Never been to tunica if your worried about it put a cover over the frame rails and tell everybody you put a diesel ring and pinion in it usap told me its no different then a Sherman under drive or an m and w in a farmall.

While your adding extra transmissions and gears for the 12,000 antique superfarm class might as well hook the corn chopper up bring it along for the show. Look simply put extra rotating drive line assembly's steal usable horsepower that needs to be put to the ground. I would approve banter or profab underdrive cause there efficiency is incredible. Regardless all three clubs I pull with this wud not fly with tech.

i see your point, but if you add another transmission in there i agree it will take up power not arguing there, but the couple horsepower it would take, it would multiply the rest of the horsepower by x amount of times would it not? there fore you would lose power from the engine but multiply the power put to the ground by an amount that would overcome the power lost

Negative ghost rider . Your dealing with such a close ratio for 4 Mph or 3.5 or 5 doesn't really matter it's a waste of time. Especially 4500 lbs class or 5500 lb class. If you have a 226 engine built right you don't need another transmission !! Horsepower to weight ratio. Do the math. Unless your pulling a house out if the ditch somewhere ya probably need double down . Hell might as well put a 2 speed splitter In the rear end while your at it ?? More options while your hooking up to the sled LoL. Advice = Keep it simple.

I'm going to be stupid here but, shouldn't it only have 8 gears or is it high low? And how does putting two trans work, because if the WC trans is slower then the Wd in 4th gear, wouldn't it drag slower, or do you not put them both in gear at same time. Sorry for the dumb question

With the front WC tranny installed in the normal position, with it in 4th gear, you'll have four normal WD speeds from the chassis tranny. When the front WC trans is in 1 - 2 or 3, you'll have three speeds slower than normal. I'd count 16 selections, but maybe some duplications. Then if you do two reverses, that would be another forward gear too. The intent was to have creeper gear speeds, which it does.

So how fast would it go in 4/4 gears? Because that would be fun to have just to play with lol

The same speed as just having one Trans and being in forth gear.

How much horsepower does a 20lb spinning handclutch take. A lot easier to pull 3mph at 2100 rpm than 1400 with 38s. I wouldn't see a advantage with 28inch rubber just 38s

Oh by the way I am from Washington. Yes I did add a WC transmission in front of the WD45 transaxel. None of my gears repeat. It gives me 6 gears from 4.2 mph to 8.1mph at 2300 rpm with 18.4 38s on 20s. It's no different than cutting a custom gear or adding a aftermarket underdrive. I didn't change the wheelbase and no custom connector shaft is required. And I used factory parts. If you guys won't let me pass tech at some of your pulls that's fine I won't pull at your clubs. We pull USAP around here and they are cool with it. I am a younger guy (26) and I am excited about pulling. This is my third year. You older guys need to make sure you encourage the younger generation if this sport is going to last. If you wanna see pictures there is a Facebook forum Antique Tractor Pulling Forum. By the way a 12 to 1 compression 302 gleaner e-code is headed my way too. Thanks guys
