I have a jd 240 mower with a Kawasaki engine. it has developed an oil leak behind the starter. I believe it is the case halve seam. does anyone know how there are sealed? is it a gasket or sealer? I am hoping this could be repaired without doing much more than pulling the engine and turning it upside down, unbolting and resealing. if there is much more to it than that i'll probably do a full rebuild. any info would be greatly helpfull

There are 3 ways to do job GOOD, FAST, CHEAP. YOU MAY CHOOSE 2. If its FAST & CHEAP it won't be GOOD, if it's GOOD & CHEAP it won't be FAST, and if its GOOD & FAST it won't be CHEAP!!!!

Yes they have a gkt. You  might try tighting all the case bolts.. Hasn't been a problem that I know of. You can go to Kawasaki web site and look at parts manuals for it.
