didn't someone suggest letting younger high school and younger kids interested in AC's and farming write essays as to why they should receive the B tractor. Then the people that donated parts could maybe vote on who they like and finalize a decision. It would be a neat gesture to try and get some young blood into AC tractors and the B is a perfect size for a younger boy/girl to start on as it's small and with the wide front isn't as tippy as a row crop style tractor.

Hey, May I add that, I am 17 years old and contributed to the Build-A-B. Sadly, My school doesn't have an FFA Chapter, so I doubt I'll be able to apply for a scholarship since I am not a member of an FFA Chapter, even though I plan to major in Ag Business. With the way things are going, I will need all the help I can get for college and it would be a bummer to miss a chance at something like that through something I contributed to due to a technicality like that. Just putting that out there...
I think it would be neat to see it travel the country to some various shows, but that is a lot of work even if it gets "handed off" to someone else at every show. Lets not forget that the tractor belongs to everyone who contributed.

I don't know if any of you visit the Cowboard site, but they redid a F20 during the Red Power show last year, much like the Build-a-B. Afterwords they auctioned it off and donated the proceeds to the IH archives in Wis. Maybe do the same thing, proceeds could go to the AC- Rumely museum trying to get started in Laporte.

Or auction it off and use the money to hepl offset the cost to Dale for putting on a great show.

I have always thought it should be raffled or auctioned off and the proceeds sent to a real good charity. There is a local Deere guy that has a big show every year and they auction stuff donated locally and they send the money to St. Jude Children's Hospital. They seem to do a lot of good work there. Just my opinion.JP

I thought when we built it that we all agreed that it should be left in the museum with the appropriate documentation to show the power of a group of Allis Chalmers supporters.
I think it should stay in the museum for all to see. If someone wants to take it to the various GOTO's, the Orange Spectacular and the Allis Connection Show to promote the OPOP and the Dale Haymaker Museum I think that would also be great.
I don't think there is any other decision to be made until/when/if the museum is disbanded. And that is Dale and his family's decision.

I have an opinion as to what should be done with the Build A B but I can not and WILL NOT give it on here. As the saying goes " You can please some of the people some of the time but you can not please ALL the people ALL the time." As was stated, it belongs to ALL the people that donated parts and labor and I will honor whatever is decided to do with it. Dale J. Haymaker

I have to agree with John (C-IL). Dale put the show on and let us build it there and as for as I am concerned it belongs to Dale and family. My 2 cents

I feel the same as John(C-IL).
None of us has any "title" to the tractor as we donated the parts. When you donate, you give the item away.
I feel that the tractor should stay with the museum until such time as the museum ceases to exist. When that happens, the disposition decision is up to Dale and/or his family.

Here's another question. Does Dale want the tractor in his museum? After all, it is HIS museum, not something that is owned by an organization with a vast majority of people taking part in the operation. Technically, if I take my tractors to a friends barn and store them, he will charge me rent because that is lost space for him. Dale, you contributed, so you have a say in this. It is also sitting on your piece of property, and in my opinion, you say if it stays or goes. Question is, if it goes, where does it go? I think we should worry about that once dale makes a decision. It seems a vast majority of people would like to see it stay in the museum. I know I sure would. I like to think that we as a group still have control of the tractor, and not the tractor going to some random person who did not contributed, other then buying a piece of paper. But I do understand, as Dale stated, you can't please everybody.

All I did was round up some B parts. Clean them up real good and paint them.
I got another Forum member, who also donated some parts, to pick the parts up at my place in NE TX and haul them up to Dales.
It was my understanding at the time that the completed B was forever to be on permant display at Dales Museum for as long as the Museum exhists. The built B, along with whole "Build a B" story including a list of folks from all over the country that sent parts to complete the B parts wanted list is priceless.
A special thanks to the gang who spent the time to sort out and do the poor word choiceembley. I wish I could have been part of that special group of dedicated AC fans.
Was I wrong in poor word choiceuming "The Build A B" was to remain at Dales on display indefinitly?

If Dale will agree to keep it at his museum, I say it stays there. If he does not want it, donate it to any local charity. Thanks all.

That was my understanding also. That it was to be displayed in Dale's museum with a sign next to it displaying the folks who donated parts. That was a fun time for all of us that year, and a great idea from Rich to come up with the "Build-A-B" project... Steve@B&B

Hey Richard, looks like you need to go over to Dale's place and put in the bolt that's missing in the hood. LOL
I thank you did a great job getting that pile of parts into one nice looking "B" good job!

I'm with Steve on this. My understanding was also that the project stay at Dale's place with names of all the folks that contributed parts and/or to help build it displayed next to the tractor. I'm for keeping it at Dale's place for all to see. It should stay in HIS museum. Rick

I'm also in the camp with it staying at Dale's Museum. Dale he did have some concern about it not being his and I can understand that. If it's a space & storage issue, I'm sure Fred will give up his bed to make room for the B, LOL! Mike

Don't go with the Smithsonian. A local town gave up an 1800's band stand several years ago. The Smithsonian just had to have it, now 30 years later it is too much up keep and have asked it the town wants it back. The cost to move it will be around 1/4 million to bring it back home. A town on the East coast has expessed intrest in it. I noticed a classic car advertised a while back for sale as having been displayed at the Smithonian as well. Just my two cents.

If it turns out that the B doesn't get to stay at Dale's, raffling it off sounds good to me. As far as doing good with the proceeds from it, do something like the Allis Connection does, or at least did. They awarded $500 scholarships to students. The student would write an essay to apply and the board members would vote on who would receive the award.
