I was just thinking about the current branding controversy at AGCO. It's not a new phenomenen. I wonder what the dedicated Rumley guys thought at the time Allis-Chalmers bought them out and killed the brand, just when they came out with a great new tractor, the Rumley-6. And what about a farmer that loved his Baldwin-Gleaner combines but wouldn't be caught dead on an orange tractor and would gag before buying a Gleaner with an A-C decal on the bin. Then look at the evolution of the JEEP brand: Bantam-Jeep, Willys-Jeep, Kaiser/Willys-Jeep, AMC-Jeep, Chrysler-Jeep, Daimler/Chrysler-Jeep, then Chrysler-Jeep again. Most Jeep loyalists weathered the evolutionary changes while others would insist that the Jeep brand died when the first outsourced engines arrived, or when the AMC emblem first appeared and defiled the holy Jeep name. I won't ramble further, but what are your thoughts?!! Kip

 THOUGHTS FROM AN OLD DOG.
HASN'T ALLIS CHALMERS BEEN GONE SINCE 1983?
CORPORATE  JOCKEYING FOR MARKET SHARE HAS BEEN GOING  ON  FOR EVER AND WILL CONTIUE. I DON'T THINK THEY ARE SELLING AN INFERIOR PRODUCT LINE. IT JUST WON'T BE ORANGE.
DON'T GET ME WRONG---I HATE TO SEE THE ORANGE  GO , BUT WHAT'S UNDER IT ISN'T ALLIS ANWAY.

we all love allis but you dont have to love agco.  Just think of agco as your wifes fatter, nasty, rude, lazy sister.  You love one dont mean you have to love them both  kip

Kip, you have it backwards.  It would be like AC buying Rumely then dropping AC and calling everything Rumely, thats what AGCO is doing now.  Bought MF now its all MF.

I guess I would have to compare FMC(Ford)to dropping the ford brand and selling only Mercury's.  They say it's all about marketshare, but they will be losing marketshare in NA.  Also I never could understand AGCO bringing on Challenger without rebadging it as AGCO.  My 0.02.  - AL

Kip, you have a good point. I know some Rumely people and they're still ticked..I guess I 've got several more years to simmer from the Agco deal..

From what I've read the Rumely 6 was outdated before it even hit the dealers lot. Allis had a good thing going with their 8000 series, they just got caught in a bad spot at a bad time. Deutz should have stuck with the 8000 tractors and the orange paint and things may have turned out completely different than they are now.
