I am sure that I've posted about this before, but searches keep coming up empty. Sorry for bringing this up again, but I don't remember the answer I got before!
I am rehabbing the blade tilt adjusting screws on my blade and have a question about the pin that secures the end of the screw behind the trunion that's attached to the blade. I've "adjusted" a cotter pin which works but clearly isn't the original scheme. Was that pin a roll pin? Something else?

Hi Richard - how are you? Thanks for the reponse.....of course, I have another question! You mention a collar - are those available anywhere? I've got a mental picture of what you're talking about, but a real picture would help. Any chance you could post a picture of this collar? Or suggest its dimensions?

Here is two different ones .
The old style , color and pin
 The newer , threaded nut and cotter pin
 I just used the big blade to clean the lane.

Richard, thanks a ton for the pictures! Mine is the old style. I think I will need to make some collars.....looks like the width of that collar is about 0.5"....sound about right? The diameter of the shaft end is 0.75", and I can measure the outside diameter of the collar as I have one of the screw setups completely disassembled.
But before I get into the machining business, does anyone know of a source for collars of that size? ------------- WC, CA, D14, WD45 |

Thanks, Richard. I have been checking the catalogs online.....lots of set-screw collars, none with a straight-through pin. If they're not hardened steel, I can drill them out. I am also blessed to have a friend with a very complete machine shop and the skills to go with it! LOL ------------- WC, CA, D14, WD45 |

You're best to make a couple sets of those collars while in the machineshop.I'm sure you could easily sell them on this forum or at least have some spares! |

Gary - thanks much for the link to my earlier post. Still puzzled as to why it didn't show up in a search, but that can wait for another day! jaybmiller - will see about getting into the collar manufacturing business - good idea. LOL. Now I am onto thinking about why both collars are missing on my blade. Is it common for them to be missing? Could it be that the pins used to loosen and slide out? Or maybe fellows got tired of driving them out and replacing them when the screws were bent from heavy use?------------- WC, CA, D14, WD45 |

I don't have an Oxnard blade but if I had dimensions of the collar I'd bet I could find something like Eldon was talking about in the other post. You would just have to drill out the threads for the set screw and drill through the other side for the roll pin.

CTucker - yes I could. Thanks for the suggestion. If the local machine shop option doesn't work out, I will try Eldon's approach. One key reason for going this route is that it will get me some time in the machine shop doing this myself....falls into the personal choice category for a retired guy like me! ------------- WC, CA, D14, WD45 |
