How do you know the gear is not engaging?

The gear could be stripped, or a pin could have sheared off on the drive for the mag/distributor. The only way you are going to know for sure is to tear it apart and see what you find. Bob

I presume you took it apart and are trying to put it back together. Were they meshing correctly before you took it apart?

Not sure if it's the same, but I had a problem with the mag on my C. The rotor button was not turning after I set the points and cleaned everything(this was when I first got it, trying to get it started for the first time.). Found that someone had left the gasket off between the points cover and rotor section. This caused the rotor gear not to mesh with the mag drive gear. I cut a gasket for it, solved the problem. Is the problem you're having that the rotor button won't turn, or can you not get the governor gear to go back into the timing gear? Is it binding and won't go into the hole?

The gears are not straight cut and its a little tricky to get the timing marks lined up. Maybe this is what the original poster is trying to say. I like to have gone nuts timing  a B because both the marks were on teeth and not on a tooth and a gullet.
