That was fun!  Let me take you back to 1972, a new AC Two-Twenty and the 12,000# stock class...
 
I remember Dad and the mechanics putting an 8" Air Research turbo blowing into a 3" AR turbo.  The first time down the track it was screaming, until the hose connecting the two turbos blew off.  Someone said, "how do we weld a nut to that rubber hose?"  Well, they ended up completely covering the length of the hose with stainless steel hoseclamps that were then wired together with mechanic's wire.  It looked odd but by golly it worked!

That second turbo REALLY lit a fire in that 220!! After a few plumbing glitches!

Those were the days of innovative seat of the pants pulling. Nowadays everyone has things that are computer designed and controlled and the driver has become a steering wheel holder and everything is over so fast they have to go analyze the computer readout to see what to do for the next run.
