its dark. its still snowing, and i've got a lot left to plow. as you can see in the pics, the right front wheel of my wd has a different idea. any long distance quick diagnosis out there? alan

| possibly the nut on the spindle backed itself off if there wasn't a cotter pin in it. |

| Alan your going to have to take the wheel off the hub, looks to tight to take it all off with the plow frame on, then the outside cap of the hub I think is press fit in or threaded you'll have to look and see. After you get this apart there is a cotter key through a sloted nut that needs to be removed. After the nut is removed the hub should come off in your hands. The inner bearing cup will still be on spindle tap this off with a hammer, shouldn't be real tight. Don't knick the spindle where the seal rides or you'll destroy the new seal. The inner bearing cups will need to be driven out of the hub with a punch. Go get new ones and replace going oppisite directions of removal. HTH Todd |

| thanks for the response. i can see that the outer bearing is shot. when its daylight, not snowing and i have a chance i'll take a closer look. i am glad to say that i got the plowing done for now. i am now the owner of a 'RARE" 1948 SFW WD. watch for it on ebay. i don't know why these are rare, they're real easy to make! dual front wheels are way over-rated! i didn't even notice the right side wheel wasn't there. alan |

The only time you need both wheels is in traffic runnin in road gear. I don't think the castle nut is pinned to the axle anymore. Maybe you did too much backing up to spin the nunt off all the way. LOL

Alan, Just take the right wheel and tire off and get the snow pushed. lol ------------- 3 WD45's with power steering,G,D15 fork lift,D19, W-Speed Patrol, "A" Gleaner with a 330 corn head,"66" combine,roto-baler, and lots of Snap Coupler implements to make them work for their keep. |

| Don gave me an idea .Remove wheel from hub and then work on bearings . Might not have to remove snow plow. |

newt - yes it does appear to be homemade. it was on the tractor when i bought it. the only problem with it is it restricts the front wheels from turning very sharply. all i use this tractor for is plowing snow at work, and i end up using the breaks quite a bit to steer. here's a couple of pics. you can also see my new fancy SFW setup. alan
