on my D-19D and D-21 was wondering if a guy could increase HP by improving air flow to intake manifold, by removing pre heater assy and replacing with a plug. seems to me you would have increase air flow by removing the restriction. what do you guys thunk?

Brian we had a 7080 that put out 225 horses plus by having a turbo built and putting a little more fuel to it and turning the rpms down so if you can increase the air flow I think it will help just my two cents Niel

Don't think it will help but i guess it couldnt hurt. The only way your gonna increase hp with more air is a bigger turbo but then you gotta have a little more fuel to spin that puppy.

Has anyone put a boost gage on one to see what pressures they are capable of? I know mine really starts to sing when the smoke starts pouring out of it.....I don't think it has an air flow problem.

My D21 tops out at 20psi of boost and dynoed at 185 hp at 2200 engine rpm, the thing is it smokes less when you work it because it is finally getting enough fuel when under load to spool the turbo up and burn more of the fuel. Turbo is an aireasearch to4b 9096 (same as a 7060 supposedly), and the pump was supposed to have been turned 20% by the place that rebuilt it, apperantly it is running a little more though. General rule of thumb I'm told is for every pound of boost you should have 10 horsepower, but not every engine responds the same.

7030-40-45-50-60 turbo has a more efficient compressor wheel than a D21/210/220 and will smoke less due to more air pushed into the combustion chamber.
