I want to get a more powerful alternator for my 7040 do you think NAPA will have one  Im assumind the 7040 has a 90 amp one there now I want over 100...

Neihoff is expensive but they go up and over 120 amp.  Might keep tach working.  If not can drill for pick up as 8000 uses to run tach.  If you are using a bunch of amps, run a separate wire, #10 or 8 from main post to starter or positive on batt.   Also the breakers and power straps on the firewall  will need to be cleaned as they break down over the 30 years of use.

ya I ran all new wires I cant get the old alternator to keep above 12.8 - 13 volts under a load and now the lights comin on it needs to be bumped up just gotta find one???

Before Ford and GM began offering dual alternators, ambulances usually had 175 amp Leece-Neville alternators on them. Might see if you can find an old ambulance in a junkyard and grab one. Older semi tractors often had them too.

When Dad had an air champ planters, he ran a 120 amp Neihoff to run the 3 blowers, but the longivity wasn't very good.  If you could fit it for one of the bigger ones off a truck, I'd think that would be the ticket if you're using it hard.

what is the amps on a 7040 alternator any how??? will the tach bolt be hard to find???
