So called split rims are a 2 piece or 3 piece rim made for tube type tires , other rims for tubless are drop center rims.
My Adams grader uses 3 piece and my Petybone SA12 also used the 3 piece .
A split rim splits at center of rim and is put together by forcing rim halves together at a angle then lock once back to round shape.
SPLIT RIMS have been out of service for many years and are a danger changing and even once mounted IF ..
2 and 3 piece rims are still made and still in service - the use of a tire cage or other means of preventing separation when airing these is a MUST .
