I am wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on how to get the most out of this motor. It runs great but needs a little more bottom end. I have not had any luck on finding much information on how to pep one up for pulling.

unless you turbocharge it - you can't get much out of it. We played with one years ago - we started adding more fuel - different tips - we only gained black smoke - but no hp or torque. About 65 hp was all we could get. IF you add rpms you have to advance the timing -which hurts the bottom end. Indirect injection and head gasket issues are real roadblocks.

Retired peanut farmer here locally did an in-frame on the 61 D17D he had since new and swears it has only had the pump adjusted up "5-10%", that's it. Original size tires and he will weight up a rear bracket he made to pull in up to 7500.
Smooth, very smooth in limited mph classes and she just starts to float the right front when she starts to hunker down.
Very competitive tractor and runs the smoothest I have ever heard out of a 262 non turbo.
Told me the local machine shops advised him to not do anything else to it as he would be spending good money without much return for want he wanted to do with it.
