Gentlemen, I have recently acquired a HD11E that has been repowered with a Detroit 4-71. While I have several questions, my main issue is finding a radiator that will both fit the tractor and the engine. The radiator in it is shot; I can find another just like it at great expense and effort but the hose ports are two different sizes (too large) and do not come close to matching the coolant ports on the engine. Does anyone have any good ideas to solve the problem? I do know the Detroit was used in earlier machines; should I be looking for one of those or or will I have trouble fitting it to the 11E? Any thoughts or insights would be much appreciated. Cheers, Mark |

HD9 (previous model) had 4-71 Detroit. Might be able to fit that radiator, not sure of the dimensions. General Gear (www.tractorparts.com) has a couple of HD11s listed with Detroit repowers- you might check with them. |

If you have room, you can use exhaust pipe and make adapters using reducers, elbows ect and weld them after fitting. I have done this many times on repowers at work, if you take time it will work very well. MHO, Lee  ------------- B212 912 Willy's Jeeps Gleaner K |

I was just wondering if it would be possible to have a re-core done on the radiator you have. Basically use the tanks from the old one and put new tubes/fins into it. Seen it done on others, probably not cheap but gives a whole new radiator except for the tanks as long as the guy doing the torch work knows what he is doing. David from jax |
