You may have seen my post about my new D14. I bought this pin hitch plow at the same auction. Dad wants to convert it to snap coupler to pull with the D14. I hate to modify anything and like to keep things original. Here is the plow.

it is a sc plow you don't need to modify it

You shouldn't have to modify it at all. All you need to do is put a SC eye on the drawbar and replace the lift arm adapters to lift arm latch adapters. The way it is set-up now is for a pin-hitch CA tractor.

I remember someone saing a ca plow only works good on a ca something about the main beam set up.

If you had a snap couple plow for parts, I think all the parts that need changed would be bolt on parts. Like Jason said, you shouldn't have to modify anything. Save the pin hitch and the pin type lift arm brackets so it can be changed back if needed. Charlie

After I posted this I searched the net and found out it was a CA plow. Looks like I need to find a CA.

To make this work correctly, and SAFELY, you will need to convert not only the hitch to the SC eye, but also the parts that attach to the lift to make it snap coupler compatable.
If you don't, what could happen could be deadly. There have been cases (even members of this forum have incidents to talk about, if you look in the old forum you may be able to find some pictures) of the snap coupler bell accidently unlatching. What that does is creates a pivot point on the lift arms, and basicly swings the implement, in this case the plow, up into the seat of the operator of the tractor, basicly into your back, and possibly crushing you to death. Look around a little, and you will find pictures. If you use the snap coupler bell, use the snap coupler latches!!! They will release if the implement were to start to swing up, thus disconnecting the entire implement from the tractor and preventing the whole thing from swinging up into you.

Morton, maybe you outta say they should release if the plow comes unhooked. The safest thing is to run a chain under the plow so it can't flip up.

To convert the CA plow to a snap coupler, as other have said you need the front piece. The lift links are completely different, not just the top piece, down to the horizontal bar. Listen to morton, convert it all not just the front hoop. Looking at the pictures, you are missing the front coulter and coulter mount.

You would probally be better off finding a snap coupler plow and selling that one as a pin hitch plow. Bolting on a snap coupler eye sets that plow too far back by about 4", you could saw 4" off the beam but then its gone & makes it harder to convert back someday,as stated above plow lift arms are different lengths from a WD to a D series and I have also heard that a CA plow differs from others. That is also a slat bottom plow & you don't see many of them, at least not around here. I had a 3-18 slat bottom once & I liked it, but it worked my D-17 hard so I traded it to a friend who had a D-19 for a 3-14 McCormick trailer plow...Harvey

Thanks guys. I'm not going to butcher it it up its too nice of a plow. If anything it gives me a reason to look for a CA. I have a WD-45 and a 3 bottom model 73 already so no need to be in a hurry.

One last comment, if you want a CA for that plow, find an early CA, Later ones came with Snap coupler.

I wish I had that plow for my '52 pin hitch CA. But I also wish my CA was complete and running. I have free time to work on it right now, but its far to cold to be painting. With a foot of snow on the ground, painting outside isn't an option.

Country guy its probably too far for you but I would trade it for a a 2 bottom SC plow. On the slat bottoms they are very popular around here. We have sand or red clay for the most part. Slat bottom moldboards and disk plows are about all I ever run across. Also there were a lot of disk tillers used.

I actually have a reason to visit Alabama already and I might even know a guy that has a snap coupler 2 bottom plow he would sell. The next hurdle is haveing spare cash to spend. If only the factory I worked at for 7.5yrs hadn't closed.

country guy I used to come up your way to Eldora when we were racing but have not been in a few years. I don't plan on doing anything with the plow unless some else wants to swap. If things change for you let me know. The economy is pretty bad down here as well, But on a plus side it makes old tractors affordable.
