with all the talk in recent weeks of swaping engines into different tractors it got me wondering.. would it be possible to remove the trouque tube section on the wd45 and replace it with hi/lo hand clutch section from a d17.. im only thinking of this because its easier to get a 45 under the 3400lbs then a d17.. i feel the only advantage a 17 has over a 45 for pulling is the hi-lo.. what are your thoughts? thanks rob

I don't think it is possible. The torque tubes on the WD/WD-45 & D17 are completly different from one anouther. The torque tube/hand cluth housing on the wd's bolts inside the frame rails, where as the frame rails on the D-17's are bolted to the flywheel bell housing & from the bell housing back there are no frame rails. It is an interesting idea tho'.

Usally when you shift the hi-lo the tires will break loose and you are done and most of the pulling clubs and sled owners don't allow the use of Hi-Lo shifting

i have been watching some olivers pull recently and you can see when they go from over to direct to under . everytime they change the rpms go up and so does the front alittle but they dont seem to spin out. they must wait till the rpms are really low but having said this all or must olivers are running 38's

But there set up is under driving. Allis is two diferent gear ranges. When hauling a full silage wagon with my 17 I spin the tires both up and down when I shift it.
