How is I40 in AK? We spent most of 2 days getting across AK on I40 and N on I55 to MO on Saturday and Sunday. What a mess. In MO the road was perfect all the way home. I wish I had gone up through OK and MO, at least they have equipment to deal with it. I'm glad we were in the coach, at least we were at home while stuck out there.

Hi Brad,

Glad you got home safe!

I-40 changes from day to day ....

Drove Sunday from Nashville to Memphis with mostly
dry roads - then hit standing water from ice/snow melt
on roadway about 30 miles east of Memphis.

Monday was a different story ...

Headed west & about 30 miles west on I-40
I saw a tanker try to pass a tractor-trailer in
the high speed lane on what appeared to be dry road,
lost control & ripped open the curb side of his tanker
on the left rear of the trailer box - went into the median.

Highway patrol was already there investigating another
accident - TDOT was clearing snow with graders &
had left piled snow adjacent to the high speed lane
in the rumble strips - roadway is banked from left
to right & snow had melted & froze creating patches
of ice in the high speed lane! ....

Up ahead another TDOT cruiser blocked off the
high speed lane with his cruiser - weird day !

Jim
